Having defeated the monstrous threat that nearly destroyed the peculiar world, Jacob Portman is back where his story began, in Florida. Except now Miss Peregrine, Emma, and their peculiar friends are with him, and doing their best to blend in. But carefree days of beach visits and normalling lessons are soon interrupted by a discovery - a subterranean bunker that belonged to Jacob’s grandfather, Abe.

Clues to Abe’s double-life as a peculiar operative start to emerge, secrets long hidden in plain sight. And Jacob begins to learn about the dangerous legacy he has inherited - truths that were part of him long before he walked into Miss Peregrine’s time loop.

Now, the stakes are higher than ever as Jacob and his friends are thrust into the untamed landscape of American peculiardom - a world with few ymbrynes, or rules - that none of them understand. New wonders, and dangers, await in this brilliant next chapter for Miss Peregrine’s peculiar children.

Too loud

This yarn is almost as enjoyable as the previous ones, with so many events crammed inside the chapters that it feels a bit like a rollercoaster ride, however one likes those. This one takes place partly in present day US, after Jake Portman returns home, from the Library of Souls, with twists and turns in and out of loops. The narrator is superb, but in this story there is a lot of yelling which when you listen with earphones to an audio book- you have to turn down the volume as not to damage your eardrums. If you just read this, it won't be a problem. This is not the narrator's fault, but the audio techs'. But that was enough to disturb the flow of the story which was disappointing. Otherwise I still find myself falling asleep from the otherwise smooth narration and seamless story line when listening in bed, and ending up in some strange dreams. The author has great imagination and makes it all flow from one peculiar place or person to another but actually makes it all seem completely normal. This story makes it clear you must read the next. I already have the fifth book and will pursue my dreams in peculiar dom. They continue to be greatly entertaining, which we all need at this time.

excellent continuation!

The worst thing about this book... is having to wait until the next one comes out!

I love this story line and the twists and turns. The way this one brought everyone forward into modern day to "help" was a fun twist but dead on. Love the narrator.

Wow!

Although this was not my favorite Peculiar book, Kirby Heyborne delivers one hell of a performance! Absolutely wonderful!

Another cliffhanger

This 4th book tears me up inside. There are the highs and then there's lows, excitement and disappointment, the breaking of hearts and the joy of love, anger and frustration, so much emotion in this book it is hard to have to see another book to come in order to resolve Jacob's dilemma. Maybe even another book won't do it maybe Ransom Riggs has a good thing going with this title. Kirby Heyborne has a mastery of narrating the story allowing himself to really be each character.
This book does not really allow Jacob to use his ability all that much but you do get more of the other Peculiar Children abilities. I'm afraid that's what's going to be in the next book because without hollowgast there really isn't much use for Jacob's abilities. Is Jacob more than his abilities? I wonder if Horatio the hollowgast will come into play in the fifth book.

An avid fan is eager for more!!

Long summary short: there were parts that rambled on too long for me. It felt slightly disjointed. BUT I feel like it’s a set up for the next two books so I’ll hold off on my final judgement for after they’ve been released! It has the “peculiar vibe” that I love so much from the previous books.
The narrator NAILS the performance. Heyborne makes the story so rich.
Riggs, I can’t wait for more!!
