Publisher's summary

Just when everything is returning to the calm that Quinn Caine and her sidekicks Ruff Barker Ginsburg and Sister Daria are used to in their beloved town of Vienna, a Broadway star crash-lands into their peace and quiet. Chad Frivole is Vienna’s prodigal son, and the once notorious lothario has returned a Broadway star, ready to make a different kind of mark on his hometown.

But not everyone is celebrating the Tony-award-winner’s return. Chad’s a triple threat—with a cast of characters lining up to seek their revenge on him. So when he turns up dead in his car, trapped with a sack full of snakes, Quinn can’t say she’s surprised—but she promises handsome detective Aiden Harrington that she’s staying out of this local mystery.

But then someone starts threatening her brother’s life. And while it’s true Sebastian used to be a womanizer just like Chad, the killer doesn’t seem to care that he’s not that man anymore. So now Sebastian's in the killer’s sights, and unless Quinn and her crew can find the killer in time, whoever it is will drag her brother into his final act on this mortal coil.

An engaging read

The narrator did an excellent job of brining this story to life! I was engaged till the end.

Returning to the charming town of Vienna, VA, we get to catch up with Quinn, her pup RGB, and some of the other characters we loved from the first book in the series. This time around, we get to learn more about the Caine family dynamics, particularly Sister D's backstory, which adds another layer of depth to the story. The budding romances and family drama make it all the more intriguing, while the humor and heart Kincaid infuses keeps it light and enjoyable.

But things take a darker turn when a Broadway star turns up dead in his car with a sack full of snakes 😱! As Quinn and "Sister D" race to solve the case and protect Quinn's brother, Bash, readers will find themselves guessing right up until the end.

While the mystery may take a back seat to the family and relationship storylines, it's still plenty intriguing. And let me tell you, the murder weapon of choice (death by snakes!) gave me all-over body shivers. 🐍🥶

It's such a shame that the series won't continue as I'm left wanting more. But if you're a newcomer to cozy mysteries or looking for a fun and entertaining read, "A Midsummer Night's Scheme" is a great choice! Highly recommend! 🌟👍

Not for me

I didn't like this book at all. The plot focused more on romance than mystery. Personal issues and relationships were too prominent. I don't get the point of the nuns and Sr. Daria. Their part of the story seemed an unnecessary distraction. I also, didn't appreciate the snakes and spiders. I gave this series a second chance, and now I know for sure this book and series is not for me.
