Publisher's summary

Laura is a liberated and courageous young lady who is convinced that she can make a difference in the small town of Willow Valley. Standing on a tub in Town Square, she encourages all women to fight for their rights and stand up for their beliefs. Equality is her message.

When Deputy Davies meets Laura, he is intrigued with her independent nature. He admires her spunk and wonders if such a woman would be interested in a small town deputy like himself.

Good Book

I enjoyed this book based on true historical facts. The heroine, Laura is an intelligent, educated and pioneer woman of her time. She was an advocate for women's rights and helped spear head her town by public speaking. She met William, the deputy sheriff who supported her beliefs. The courting commenced. The narrator was excellent in providing various accents.

Beautifully done

I really enjoyed this sweet and clean historical fiction and romance. It's part of a series of brave women who were not afraid to take a stand in what they believe needed to be changed and you will see some historical figures that appear in this book! Loved that. I enjoyed that the Willow Valley people return such as the owner of the hot chocolate shop and others familiar from an earlier book. The characters are good people trying to make the best of the situations that they are in. However, it is not necessary to have read the previous books in order to be aware of what is happening in this, the third book. It's a great stand alone story. The narrator was Elizabeth Schmidt, who I believe is a new narrator for the author's Audible books. I enjoyed her expression and her story-telling abilities. She was easy to listen to.

This is a very enjoyable book and it was fun to listen to. I received a complimentary Audible copy of this book from the author and was not required to post a review. All thoughts are my own.

A woman before her time.

A gentle story of a young woman in the 1840’s in Illinois who was before her time. She spoke for women’s right to vote and abolition and spoke out in public which was very unusual. This is a time when waltzing was denounced as immoral and some people were very concerned about their place in the upper class. Sweet William,a strong Welshman and deputy was not intimidated by the outspoken Laura with the new ideas.

A strong woman

This book is a part of the Women of Courage series, this book is a clean and very sweet historical romance. In 1844 back in Willow Valley Laura McBride was trying to fight for women’s rights even though people didn’t think she could make this change. Laura is a very strong, spunky, determined, independent woman believing with all her heart that this will change the world. Laura meets Deputy William Davies when she goes to the police station to report an intruder that broke into her home. William is intrigued by Laura and what she stands for.
There is also a bit of mystery in this book which gave the book another layer!
The narrator did a wonderful job with the “performance”. It was quite enjoyable!

A Western Lady of Strength

A Mississippi Sunset is Book 3 in The Women of Courage Series by Linda Weaver Clarke. The story is set in 1844 in Willow Valley, a small Southern town. Laura is a strong lady who fights for equality. I felt that Laura represents our history. She fights for the ending of slavery and equality for all women. I thought the characters were so well written and perfect for the story. I really enjoyed that romance is woven through the book. Deputy William Davies is fascinated with Laura. Unfortunately, she us committed to being courted by Albert. Elizabeth Schmidt gives an amazing performance with her narration. I feel that each book in this series is fantastic. received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
