Murder in the eye of the storm!

Coming off a heartbreaking whirlwind relationship, a despondent Alexander Southerland returns to the streets of Yerba City when he hears that an old acquaintance is a person of interest in the murder of an unregistered adaro nymph. Southerland's uncontrollable curiosity finds him mingling with street gangs, secretive priestesses, rogue cops who aren't what they seem, an adaro resistance movement, ghosts of the mind and body, and powerful spirits from the islands of the southern seas. Can our intrepid P.I. solve the secret of the Eye of Taufa'tahi before a record-shattering storm pulls Yerba City into the sea?

Not as good

I was disappointed in the story. It seem the the main MC is deteriorating. The alcoholic tendencies are not endearing. The self sabotage is a downer. The previous books in this series were great, but I am tempted to suggest stopping at the previous book. I was so disappointed in this story. The mystery was good. The rest… nope.

I’ll Drink to That

A Nymph Returns to the Sea is book 5 of the adventures of Alex Southerland. to really enjoy the Alexander Southerland, P.I. Series, jumping in without having read the others won’t affect your enjoyment of A Nymph. But having read all those before helps. You won’t regret getting drunk, punched in the face, starved and poisoned along with Alex. Hellz, you will form a great bond with Smokey also. All that to say, another great story by Douglas Lumsden. Fantastic narration by Duffy P. Weber in the audiobook. DRmz 3-7-23

Preachy

I was hoping for another entry in a fantasy detective series. What I got was a weak story with chapter long rants about women's reproductive rights and male dominated societies. I had previously enjoyed this series as it was an escape from the issues of today. I only made it half way through so I can't comment on the story's mystery overall but I was never really pulled in. Obviously this is the author's world and he can do with it what he wants but in my opinion fans of detective stories will be disappointed.

For the record the narration was as good as ever.
