Published 10 years after Collins’s most popular novel The Woman in White, Man and Wife centres on the confused and inequitable marriage laws of 19th-century Britain, reflecting the author’s own antipathy toward the institution. The plot follows the fortunes of a woman who, committed to marriage with one man, comes to believe that she may have inadvertently married his friend, according to the archaic laws of Scotland and Ireland.

Sayers' aristocratic sleuth: first, a body is discovered in a Battersea bathroom, wearing nothing but a pair of pince-nez, on the same night that financier Sir Reuben Levy disappears from his Park Lane home. Then, Wimsey returns to England when his brother, the Duke of Denver, is accused of murdering the fiance of their sister, Lady Mary, and a trial in the House of Lords looms; and finally, an overheard conversation in a restaurant begins an investigation of the strangely premature death of wealthy and terminally ill old lady Miss Agatha Dawson.

Love the narration and the characters
I have enjoyed the books in this series. The characters, main and side, were very likeable. The narration was wonderful. Ann Granger made this series different by offering the story from both Ben and Lizzie’s point of view, and the audible version had 2 different narrators hence. The narrators were wonderful! They were able to bring out the feelings of both Ben and Lizzie down to the little nuances. You have to listen for yourself to fully appreciate it.
The story was interesting and had many understated humour, which made me laughed.
Ann Granger most well known series would be the Meredith Mitchell and Markby series which I love too, but I have to say now that I started this Inspector Ben Ross series, I love it more.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
