About this listen
Phil Tarsus is a dreadful instrument of State justice. He's an Inquisitor, a man who makes a living rooting out and executing those people who have been charged with treason. Guilt or innocence mean little to him - he has quotas to fill after all. Yet when he unwittingly stumbles upon a secret involving someone high up in the new American government, he becomes a target himself. Unfortunately for Phil, there's nowhere to run that the government can't find him.
In the year 2122, in the perfect state of America, the government owns everything...from the shoes you wear, to the apple you eat, to your next door neighbor. The government owns everything and is everything. Under these conditions Phil can trust no one but the man he's slated to murder next.

Story
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

Ferryman Charlie Dawson saves dead people - somebody has to convince them to move on to the afterlife, after all. Having never failed a single assignment, he's acquired a reputation for success that's as legendary as it is unwanted. It turns out that serving as a Ferryman is causing Charlie to slowly lose his mind. Deemed too valuable by the Ferryman Institute to be let go and too stubborn to just give up in his own right, Charlie's pretty much abandoned all hope of escaping his grim existence. Or he had, anyway, until he saved Alice Spiegel.

A small section of vine with bloodstained thorns has been encased in candle wax for centuries - and some believe the blood came from Christ. Convicted killer and death-row inmate Michael Coleman agrees to have the genes from the mysterious blood planted into his body. The results are so astonishing that the research must continue outside prison walls. But nobody can predict what will happen when Coleman assumes a new identity and reenters society. Blood of Heaven delves deep into the human heart and examines the very nature of good versus evil.

Seventeen-year-old Ryn Whittaker is a Citadel: an elite, enhanced soldier specially chosen to guard a Rift, a mysterious and dangerous portal to alternate Earths scientists cannot control or close. But the teenager’s military conditioning and education have not prepared her for the boy who crosses through.

Story
For most people, the story of their lives is just that: the accumulation of time, encounters, and actions into a cohesive whole. But for an unfortunate few, that day-to-day existence is affected - perhaps infected is a better word - by memetic incursion: where fairy tale narratives become reality, often with disastrous results.

A MUST READ!!!
Warning, the contents of this book are addictive, you find yourself restless, unproductive and flat out unresponsive. If you experience loss of social skills, family life and or sleep deprivation; buy another novel by Peter. This story immersive, complex and masterly crafted. It poses the question, what if we continue down this path we've started. What if opportunity gave way to "equal opportunity". If faith gave way to "facts". The depth and evolution of the character keeps you wanting more. As you explore the perfect America, you can find yourself introspecting and really learning about yourself as well as the world you live in.

Good book but way to much bible talk!
Would you try another book from Peter Meredith and/or John Eastman?
Yes
Would you recommend A Perfect America to your friends? Why or why not?
No. Interesting story but it contains to much bible talk. I almost gave up on the book.
What aspect of John Eastman’s performance would you have changed?
Nothing
Did A Perfect America inspire you to do anything?
No
Any additional comments?
A pretty good book but for me it was ruined by too much talk about God and Jesus. So I would not recommend this book to anybody who does not like to be preached to about Jesus and God.

Immaculate from beginning to end.
In a country that is forever changing; the story brings light to a lot of gray areas in politics that a lot of people will never see. If this helps one person , then he's already done his job. After reading this amazing book I will recommend it to all of my friends and family. Peter Meredith amazes me again, having not read any of his books outside of the zombie genre, it truly shows how brilliant this man's mind is. Suspenseful from beginning to end!

Really.. really wanted to like this but..
OK, the best way to describe this book? It has a similar theme as The Acolyte yet is the complete opposite. How is it that they are similar yet completely different? Well, the setting is similar in that they take place in dystopian futures and have a main protagonist who is somewhere within the government or ruling body when everything gets turned upside down. They also take either societal examples to the extremes. The Acolyte takes place in a dystopia where religion has taken over and A Perfect America is the complete absence of relgion. Similarities mostly end there. The story starts out pretty good, but gets very.. very preachy. About half way through I had to start consistently reminding myself that this takes place in a dystopian future and the characters simply don't know any better. It honestly wouldn't be so noticeable and would be much more palatable if the preaching also made logical arguments but the majority of it comes down to faith good, science/facts bad. Or, without faith, society will morally erode and turn into this *insert dystopian oppressive government example* Much of the preaching could be used to explain why either extreme is bad for society (too far left/right in politics) but that is not the case here. If you can understand why the characters are readily able to believe anything they are told (grass is greener and all that) you might be able to get through this book and perhaps enjoy it. I, alas had to put it down for a bit. I've read much of what Peter Meredith has written and enjoy most of it. I will no doubt finish this book because of that.. but yeah, you've been warned.

Interesting concept, a bit preachy, poor narrator
This was an interesting concept. Although, I felt a bit like I needed a tinfoil hat! Many of the concepts and beliefs that Meredith’s characters preach are thoughtful and based upon historical truths and biblical parables but difficult to imagine America getting to that point. The media having so much power though is not a far stretch. He has created an extreme world, but that’s where Meredith thrives! This is not my favorite of his books but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The narrator was tough. I didn’t care for his cadence. It was too Captain Kirk. It made the story hard to listen to at times. I have my faith in check and don’t mind “God talk” but it may be too much for some. Thus this book gets an overall 3

A Parable and a Warning!
This amazing piece of fiction is also a warning of where our country is headed. When truth becomes subjective and lies become truth there is nothing solid in which to stand. Phil’s eyes are opened by an unlikely character. The journey is a harrowing one however! Twists and turns and switchbacks lead to an exciting well written read that had me hooked from the start!
