About this listen

A Place for Murder: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

This is the second of 37 best-selling Emma Lathen mysteries featuring SVP of the Sloan Guaranty Trust, John Putnam Thatcher, who gets to the bottom of things by cutting through divorce, carryings-on, dog shows, and more to examine the financial motives and nail the killer. A humorous romp for those who like humor and good writing in their mysteries. Called the "American Agatha Christie" and "Nero Wolfe with Portfolio" by The New York Times.

Booktrack is an immersive listening experience that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music and sound effects. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Please note: The audio for this title has noise issues at the beginning and end of each file/chapter.

Ruined the story —-incomplete book

This is a really great classic mystery story. BUT the recording left off the final chapter—the denouement and explication of the mystery. It’s one of Lathen’s best—set in an incredibly upscale eastern Connecticut community of the super rich and at its dog show. Narration VERY weak and missing chapter.

good book - awful narration

Have read the books and like the series - was glad to find them here . However the narration is so bad I don't think he's ever read aloud before . Make sure you listen before buying this narrator . I'll go back to reading the books . Probably will return for credit . So sad - this could have been great .

Audiobook does not include final chapter!

The audio ends before the motive is explained. There is another chapter in the text version.

Worst Audible listen of the 1000 in my library

I don't like writing bad reviews because I admire what it takes to be an author, which I cannot do. The biggest problem with this listen was that it sounded like the narrator was reading the script for the first time, and mumbled at times, with pregnant pauses that made no sense, etc. Maybe it was some new style of narrating that I don't understand.

Intriguing story marred by horrific performance

The plot was interesting, if mostly filled by character descriptions and behaviors. Unfortunately most of the questions raised were never answered so we are left wondering about why Olivia and Gil were behaving so strangely, why Brad was so distressed and the killer, revealed in the last sentenc, committed the murders. The background music served to further obscure the appalling reading of the text, which was so mangled and had such jerky cadence as to be nearly unintelligible. Can’t imagine why editors would permit a recording to go out in such a state! I will not purchase another one of these recordings!
