great, as always.

Too many references to modern SyFi to mention, we owe most of today's SiFi to these books.

The vocabulary!

Would you recommend A Princess of Mars to your friends? Why or why not?

The version of "A Princess of Mars" that I first read (about 10 years ago) must have been a bawdlerized, abridged version that stripped Burrough's prose of its grandeur, because I wondered why *anyone* would get excited over John Carter and Dejah Thoris. Listening to this audiobook, I was seized by the variety and precision of the wording ERB used to lift an otherwise pulp-worthy story into the realm of cult classics.

REALLY GOOD FOR A $2 BOOK

I was surprised about how well read this book was, I wasn't expecting much out of it, considering the price tag was so cheap. Having picked up the other books in the series for 4-5$ a pop, this one had been the best performance out of the whole lot.

After getting through most of the second book, read by somebody else that frequently started off bad and had to work his way up to "eh, it's ok." 5min after they started reading a new segment.... THIS reading of "A Princess of Mars" was by far better.

I would suggest picking up this version of the book. It is the right price if you are just wanting to get introduced to the series.

A Tale of Three Flaws

That was some racist shiz right there. Very difficult to listen to, as I kept scoffing over the story.

The hero was impossibly good at everything. Boring.

The narrator didn't seem to pause for air so we could digest the story.

Imaginative series by Burroughs

The John Carter series is one of my favorites. The characters seem genuine and not cheesy. The stories are vividly brought to life and suggest to me that they were written more recently than over 100 years ago. I highly recommend reading the entire series. You'll love it.
