About this listen

Acclaimed for her "devastatingly accurate insight" (The New York Times Book Review) into the criminal mind, Ann Rule has chronicled the most fascinating cases of our time in her bestselling Crime Files series. For this sixth stunning collection, Rule has culled from her private files the most-asked-about homicide cases - riveting accounts of seemingly normal men and women who are compelled by a murderous rage to suddenly lash out at innocent victims.

Torn from the headlines, here is the case that shocked a nation: the Seattle city bus ride that turned to mayhem and murder at the hands of a gunman. Ann Rule unmasks the forces that drove quiet, clean-cut Silas Cool to shoot the driver, causing the bus to plunge off the Aurora Bridge into an apartment building. The catastrophe left three dead - including Cool - and dozens injured. While the scene unfolds as in a terrifying movie, Rule finds very real answers to the haunting question "how could this happen?" - and expertly constructs the unseen chain of events that resulted in an explosive and shattering tragedy.

Included here are nine other sensational cases that illuminate Rule's unique and authoritative view of the human psyche gone temporarily berserk. No one can match Rule's meticulous research, or reveal the motives to murder in such explicit and chilling detail. You may think you know who is safe and who is dangerous; in A Rage to Kill, Ann Rule frighteningly shows that none of us are truly protected from the flashes of irrational violence that can erupt from the killers among us.

one of the best in the series. all shorter stories

likes it best of the series of the 8 I have heard so far...performance is 4 stars only because she mispronounces lots of local native american name. you can tell she is not from here. but she tries hard.

Potentially triggering for trans individuals

I enjoyed many of the stories and the way they presented, but the age of the book and the prejudice towards Trans individuals is very apparent in one of the stories.
The person of interest in the story is constantly referred to with "he" pronouns when they clearly in the story state they are a woman, and want to use female pronouns. They're described as a "con artist" and "tricking people into believing that they're a woman". The way Jacki in the story is written about is really gross and could be very triggering for dysphoric individuals. (They're a horrible murderer, but the blatant disregard towards their gender identity is unforgivable).

Aged Like Milk

The “Queen” of True crime has gone stale in this collection of true crime stories. This is spoken from the POV of a person who has read every book Ann Rule has written. Most of stories seemed rushed and lacked context. This was basically a poorly constructed afterthought of a book. The close mindedness and disrespect shown to the transgendered woman regardless of the crime she committed truly shows the ignorance and bias that unfortunately we still live with in 2024. The title of that story alone made me stop the book and wish I could return it. Too bad Audible will not allow me to return it. DO NOT PURCHASE this book.
