Publisher's summary

"Brilliantly quirky, wildly absurd"

Clunk, a clapped-out robot, is convinced he's about to be junked. Instead, his penny-pinching boss is sending him off to be refurbished.

Being old and wise, Clunk knows there's a catch, but at first it doesn't seem too bad. He just has to help a freelancer pick up some cargo.

Unfortunately, Hal Spacejock - the freelancer - is obstinate, over-confident, and woefully under-skilled, and he's never going to let a lowly robot fly his precious ship.

Is there any chance this pair of misfits can lift off, collect the cargo and deliver it in one piece? Or will they fly straight into the nearest star, still bickering and fighting over the controls?

Set in the distant future, where humanity spans the galaxy and robots are second-class citizens, A Robot Named Clunk is the first novel in the Hal Spacejock series. (The first three novels are available in a boxed set called Hal Spacejock Omnibus One, which is cheaper than buying them individually. Hal Spacejock Omnibus Two is also available.)

These novels are self-contained, with a beginning, a middle, and a proper ending. They're not sequels, they don't end on a cliffhanger, and you could start or end your journey with any book in the series. Some events from earlier books are referenced in later ones, so it makes sense to listen to them in order, but it's not essential.

If you get a smile or two out of Hal and Clunk's first outing, you will love the rest of the series.

I gave it a try... but

Just not what I was expecting. I didn't really find that much humor in the story. Maybe it's just not my kind of humor. The main thing that ruined it for me was the MC. He's stupid, arrogant and just plain annoying. By the end of the book, I really wasn't paying much attention. I don't even remember how it ended. It wasn't what I would call bad, just not for me.

I love this series!

This is his first Spacejock novel and it shows. That being said, it's still a good book. The series gets progressively better and more developed with each novel. If you thought this novel was just ok, keep on trucking and you won't be disappointed. I originally bought the first three novels as a kindle download and thought the first novel was ok, but book 2, 3 were much better and they only get more enjoyable from there. Clunk and Hal quickly grow on you and you'll be reading through all the novels in no time. I hope they bring the others to audiobook too!

12 year old humor

I found the writing to be simplistic and the humor to be very juvenile. i thought at first I had just come across a YA book, but the jokes are adult in nature, just not very good. I tried several times to get through the audible version and couldn't, though I was able to skim the hard copy version. It really just never developed beyond tween-age humor.
