About this listen
Explore the confines of your imagination with this new collection from Chad A. Clark.
A Shade for Every Season consists of over 70 tales, reaching into the horror and science fiction genres and beyond. The stories may be short, but the impact is not. Take a stroll through the dark and the macabre. Hear of revenge, snatched back from beyond the grave, and monsters that will thrill and scare you. Travel into the furthest reaches and isolation of outer space.
See what lies down inside the darkness, where sometimes doors are best left unopened. Experience the thrill of the narrative - in the time it takes to finish your morning coffee.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government "rehabilitation camp." The human race has turned to dust. August Morrison faces it after rising from the depths of a dark matter research facility in Arizona. His co-workers. His daughter. All of them: dust. Friends and colleagues around the world don’t answer their phones. The city of Phoenix burns. He is alone. As a world without mankind starts to crumble, August fights not just for survival, but for his very sanity. On the other side of the country, Poe McDowell watches her parents crumble into dust just moments after being shoved inside a coffin-like device that spares her from the same fate.

Story
Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Pain, horror, fear - these are the things that have comprised best-selling novelist Lance Metzger's life. His childhood remains a riddled wasteland of abuse by a sadistic father and abandonment by an apathetic mother. In turn his only refuge became his writing. When Lance loses his ability to write and becomes haunted by a nightmare that he'd thought was buried, he is drawn inexplicably to a house on the shores of Lake Superior, where he finds his muse once again - but something is waiting for him when he arrives.

The coauthor of Beowulf’s Children strikes out on his own with this novel of mystic revelation and martial arts. What if the disciplines we know as the martial arts, meditation, and fasting were mere fragments of a greater, more powerful killing art? What if that hidden discipline could produce in a man the power to manipulate matter and energy at will? What if the effect on the mind were so deadly that, uncontrolled, the result would be an inhuman killer?

An Interesting Collection
This is a collection of short stories. The stories varied from really, really short (like a snip-it) to just short. A variety of topics keeps you wondering what the next one is going to be. It's a mixture of genres as well, from horror to comedy to simple musings. If you like collections from an author that give you a taste of their writing style then you should check this one out. It's not what I would call a gripping collection of stories but it's not boring either. The narration could have had a bit more emotion to it but it didn't take away from the story. J Stempien has a nice voice and reads at a decent pace.

Wow were they short
I am a big fan of horror anthologies and collections. I knew going in with the length only being 4.23 hours that they were going to be short. My surprise was how short a lot of these stories were. Again I knew going in but man some of these stories were faster than the time it took me to brush my teeth. I would listen to about 10 getting ready for work and going out the door. Some are pretty good but with the lack of time and content it leaves you with a lot more to be desired. Its a nice collection to add to your list but don't expect anything captivating. J. Stempien does a great work narrating the stories here.

Nice short stories compilation
I received this book from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.
For me it was more a 3.8.
It did have a little of everything from chilling to fun to intriguing stories.
Now in my particular case, i would have loved that some of them were a little longer.
The narration were cool, i liked the quality of the narrator voice it was like hearing stories by a fire in a camp.
A cool book if you don't have much time to read or hear a book.

Very Short Short Stories
This collection had a nice mix of micro short stories and more regular length shorts. They also had a nice range of horror and comedy! While it's not the *best* collection of horror shorts I've ever listened to, I did enjoy them. J. Stempien does a fine job of narrating this one.

Dark short stories
A large collection of very short stories. The title story, A shade for every season, being the longest, at 10 minutes. I decided it wasn't a good idea to try and listen to each story back to back, but instead listened to one or two stories at a time during my smoke break to take my mind off of work for a few minutes, or during short commutes. Section 1 has various stories, some like the recollections of nightmares, others clever and humorous. Section 2 has stories relating to Christmas or winter time. In section 3, the author tells stories about various monsters from legends. One for every letter of the alphabet. Section 4, entitled "End of the road" is comprised mostly of horrors some of which involve actually being on the road. Overall, the stories are mostly dark, or dark humor, and worth a listen to anyone who likes stories roughly 2-5 minutes long.
I found the narrators voice soft and calming. I would have listened to this in bed except that I feared the stories might actually give me nightmares.

A Shade For Every Season
This is a nice collection of short stories. As with any large collection of stories some grabbed my attention more than others. I enjoyed this writers’ style and many of the stories left me wanting more from their worlds. This is a nice way for listeners to see if they enjoy this author. There were many different themes in this book. Each story is well written and pulled me right in from the start. Many of the stories felt like they were just the beginnings of the tales and I would have loved to see more depth and longer versions of them. Each of these stories is full of horror or suspense that will give you chills.
Narrator J. Stempien does a good job of bringing the listener into the stories and keeping them enthralled throughout this collection.
