About this listen

A perfect holiday gift.

Shari Lapena’s new thriller, An Unwanted Guest, is available now!

“Smart and suspenseful... you'll never see the ending coming.” (PureWow)

In this neighborhood, danger lies close to home. A domestic thriller packed full of secrets, and a twisty story that never stops - from the best-selling author of The Couple Next Door

He looks at her, concerned. “How do you feel?” She wants to say, Terrified. Instead, she says, with a faint smile, “Glad to be home.”

Karen and Tom Krupp are happy - they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished - her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse - complete with phone and ID - behind. There's a knock on the door - the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town. The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes.

Still, she’s mostly okay - except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good. Karen returns home with Tom, determined to heal and move on with her life. Then she realizes something’s been moved. Something’s not quite right. Someone’s been in her house. And the police won't stop asking questions.

Because in this house, everyone’s a stranger. Everyone has something they’d rather keep hidden. Something they might even kill to keep quiet.

Predictable

Right from the beginning of this who-donit you know who did it! There's no big shocker ending or much guessing. It's entertaining and the narrator does a good job, but the story line is boring. It's like Gone Girl gone wrong!

Unpredictable

loved this book. a little slow in the beginning, but we'll worth staying with. Just when you think you have it figured out the plot changes. A great find.

One of the best mystery/suspense for 2017

Every chapter got me hook-up and could not put this listening down. The suspense was so tense. I am happy I was recommended by this and glad I took the liberty to listen from this audible book. Definitely would recommend other to take their time to listen to this.

Excellent Read

This is the second book I've listened to from this author and she has such an amazing ability to tell a story that keeps you guessing until the absolute very end! 5 stars all around! The narrator is great as well.

Forcefully leads you

Forces you down a predictable path so much so that you immediately (and correctly) suspect it can’t be that simple.

I enjoy Shari Lapena normally, glad this wasn’t my first experience with her work. I’ll continue reading her work in the future, but won’t recommend this to others.

Good Narration

This book was very well narrated. I could tell when it was someone else talking and the voice was not cringy for the male parts. Book started out kind of slow, but picked up pace after a couple chapters.
