About this listen

From award-winning suspense novelist Christina Kaye....

At a Christmas tree lighting in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, a barefoot, thinly clad young woman runs up to a mounted police officer, frantic and begging for help. She tells the officer her name is Caroline Hanson. But that can’t be. Caroline Hanson vanished into thin air 10 years ago.

When Detective Mena Kastaros is informed that the victim in one of her first cases as a detective has reappeared, she battles emotions she’s tried futilely to ignore for nearly a decade. Not only was this case important to Mena, but the details of Caroline’s abduction bear a striking resemblance to her own daughter’s kidnapping around that same time. The only difference is that Mena’s daughter was found dead two weeks later, and here sits Caroline Hanson, alive and relatively unharmed.

Mena must use the information she learns from Caroline to track down the man who abducted her—a man who may also be responsible for the death of her daughter. Now, the seasoned detective will face her demons as she seeks to bring this evil monster to justice. But Mena fears her demons may win, and if she finds the man she’s hunting, she might not be able to allow the legal system sort it out. Mena must decide which is more important to her…justice…or revenge.

A great story

Wow! I really enjoyed listening to this story. A well written story about a girl who was kidnapped 10 years ago who suddenly shows back up. And the detective who is invested in the case. She had a tragedy in her life years ago that she can't get over. An emotional story full of sadness, hope love and healing. Definitely a must read.

Great book

This book had me hooked from the start. There is a lot go on and how hard it is for Mena and how she tracks him down. It amazed me how parents could have done it to their own daughter. Put it on your list for books to listen to. The narrator Abbie Pfaff did a fantastic job bringing characters to life. Looking forward to book 2.

Engaging listen

Listened to this entertaining audio book during a recent road trip. The police procedural plot was engaging, and the author created an intriguing and complex protaganist, with whom the listener will come to empathize. Even the villain has unexpected intentions. A major plot line and a potentially powerful adversary introduced late in the book felt not fully developed-hopefully, future books in this series will return to explore this area further.
The narrator's excellent performance richened the narrative, with a smooth, subtle delivery and convincing voices for the various characters.

I loved the narration of Abbie Pfaff, who brings out the characters, even the making the villain and plot come alive.

Very Good Damaged Detective Story

Anyone who thinks the loss of a child, weather kidnapped or killed, have no idea how extremely painful even years later it is. I enjoyed this story, but really disliked Caroline's Mother, she is a selfish money hungry Woman.
Felt sort of sorry for the Bad guy his family (cult) really messed with his mind. Narrator does a Wounderful job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
