About this listen

A Way from Darkness is the unflinching and confessional story of Taylor Hunt's journey from addiction to health - physical, emotional, and spiritual. His parents’ divorce set the stage for a downward spiral of self-destruction. The pressure he felt to keep his family together, coupled with a deep desire to “fit in”, fueled his experimentation with drugs and alcohol. His descent from upper-middle class teen with a promising future to the depths of heroin addiction left him bankrupt in every imaginable sense of the word. Soon, he was fully immersed in the dark underbelly of society and on the brink of death. Finding his way out of the abyss after 10 years was neither quick nor easy. A 12-step program of recovery and the practice of yoga provided the guiding lights toward a new path. Taylor does much more than share his story in A Way from Darkness; he invites the listener to find healing through community, Ashtanga yoga, and ultimately, acceptance.

Raw & Real

Taylor Hunt opened his soul to us in this book about his life and transformation from active addiction to sober person and, now, world-renowned Ashtanga yoga instructor. You can feel his passion come through in this audiobook. Taylor sends the message of hope through loud and clear if you only get out of your own way, surrender, (& get your ass to class). You can feel how hard he worked to clean up his life and the message is inspirational to anyone struggling with anything. Get out of your own way.

fantastically motivating

Loved the story and the content shared. There is always a way forward and the brutal honesty shared drew me into Taylor's pain and through to the otherside to his light.

Powerfully inspiring

Simple, straight forward. Excited to start my own journey with Ashtanga as part of my sobriety.

beautifully written and read

I recommend this read to all of my yogi friends. The way Taylor details different traumas in his life and hearing him read it was so impactful. The way he talks about ashtanga is the same way I feel about yoga and have never heard it described better.
