About this listen
A Zombie for Mommy! is a fun and quirky listen by American sci-fi novelist Yvette Kendall. Her story peeks into the whimsical lives of a sweet first grader named Mahari and her newly divorced mom.
Mahari’s life is happily filled with imaginary friends but feels a little sad when her mom gets lonely. However, she’s met a surprising new (not so imaginary) friend that she thinks will change her mom’s life for the better. In her mind, they’re a perfect match...but her mom may not think so.
In this book, Kendall refers to her style of writing as "cotton candy horror" because of its cute and surprising delivery. Kendall has found a perfect way to bring happy goosebumps to younger audiences that love zombies.

Innocent and Suspenseful
This is a great short book that will have you sitting on the edge.
I love the innocence of Mahari. However, her innocence, compassion and loneliness can possibly turn disastrous which is the suspense that has me looking forward to read the next book. I want to know what happened.

A Zombie For Mommy Could Do No Wrong! Engaging
Every once in a while, you happen upon a book that hits on all cylinders. Ironically, it happens to be a children's book (lol). When I tell you that this is a good book, believe me. I purchased the book when I saw it in Barnes & Noble (can I say that on here Hahaha!), its true. The cover just lured me in. I'm gonna say this loud and proud, you don't see "People of Color" on the cover of little kids books talking about Zombies, ya just don't! To see this little black girl who looks like my daughter, niece or next door neighbor warmed my heart. The icing on the cake is the doll and the picture over the little girl Mahari's bed. They are representing whether you like it or not. Any-hoo, I brought the book and was like, "They have an audiobook too???" So, now I'm listening to the audiobook and whoever the narrator is, she has changed my world forever. Her voice is like a young, female Hitchcock, in a delightful way. Now I'm mad because I want more. I guess you can tell that my daughter and I are new fans of Yvette Kendall.
