A chilling haunted house mystery inspired by a true crime....

For six long years, Max has avoided Draven, her hometown that holds the remnants of a ghastly accident. But when her brother dies, she is drawn back into the clutches of her haunted past.

In the wake of her family's shattered happiness, Max is caught in a nightmarish whirlwind of horrors that defy the laws of our world. The epicenter of these malevolent forces resides within the crumbling walls of an abandoned farmhouse, burdened by a sinister history.

The house harbors secrets, both old and new. Secrets that might just reveal the fate of a young woman who has gone missing. A woman with ties to Max’s own former life in Draven.

As Max digs deeper into a series of unexplained deaths stretching back a century, she comes face to face with an evil intent on destroying her.

Great story!!

I think this is my favorite out of all the Troubled Spirits books! I loved the story and all the characters. The tension between Max and her mother is palpable. You can feel the guilt and regret in just about every interaction. The “nightmare/sleepwalking” sequences are all around eerie. Even the background story on Freddy’s house was great!
Great creepy read with undertones of grief and good vs evil that I think we all can relate to in one way or another.
Angie Tripp did a great job narrating!

Eerie paranormal based on true story

One of the saddest, yet spellbinding stories yet! Still leaves you wondering until the end. It amazes me how JR can take a true story and twist it into an amazing paranormal gift that leaves you wondering. This narrator does a great job, as well, of differing her voice for different characters without sounding creepy (unless it’s warranted!)

Overall a good listen

I enjoyed this book. Good narration, interesting plot. My only complaint was that I found the one line the main character kept repeating to be quite irritating.

Best J.R. Erickson book!

Max returns to her hometown of Draven, after her brother's death. Back home, sleeping in her childhood bed, she begins to sleepwalk. Each time, she finds herself near her town's haunted house, "Freddie's House." Why does the house call to her? And what is it with the bruises on her body? Not to mention the odd behavior of her mother.
This is a dysfunctional family drama, spooky story, and mystery all wrapped up in one. And it was so good! It's now my favorite book by J.R. Erickson.
Angie Tripp did an amazing job with the narration. I will definitely look for more books that she reads.

If you find a well in the basement, RUN!

J.R. Erickson is one of my go-to authors when I want a well-written creepy tale. I also enjoy the fact that her books are based on real events and she provides the details of that event at the end of the book.

Max fled from her hometown of Draven after her brother's devastating accident. When he dies, she finally returns home. She soon finds herself drawn into a mystery with (possible) supernatural elements. Will she be able to solve this mystery? Who is involved and how does it affect her? The author has written a fast paced and wildly entertaining book. Don't plan to get much sleep once you start this one!

The narrator did a great job with the audiobook and added a lot to my enjoyment. If you enjoy authors like Darcy Coates, this book should be a great fit for you. A bit of mystery, a lot of family drama and just enough creepy vibes make for a great book!

I was given the chance to read an ARC of this book and chose to review (because it's a great book!).
