Publisher's summary

When an earthquake strikes San Francisco, forensics expert Jessie Teska faces her biggest threat yet in this explosive new mystery from the New York Times best-selling duo.

There’s a body crushed under a load of pipes on a San Francisco construction site, and medical examiner Dr. Jessie Teska is on call. So it’s her job to figure out who it is - and her headache when the autopsy reveals that the death is a homicide staged as an accident.

Jessie is hot on the murderer’s trail, then an earthquake sends her and her whole city reeling. When the dust clears, her case has fallen apart and an innocent man is being framed. Jessie knows she’s the only one who can prove it, and she races to piece together the truth - before it gets buried and brings her down in the rubble.

With Melinek and Mitchell’s trademark blend of propulsive prose, deft plotting, and mordant humor, this rollicking new installment in the Jessie Teska Mystery series will shake you up and leave you rattled.

New to me

Always thrilled when I discover a new series involving a female as the sleuth. Can’t wait to listen to #1 and find out if there’s a #3

Spell binding

A female coroner takes you through the day-to-day coroner’s life at the morgue while pursuing facts pertinent to a mysterious death. Whodunit? With what???

Interesting listen

I enjoyed listening to the book. I wanted a nice non educational listen that was based on what could be true and I got it.

Jack Of All Trades

Master of all too. The heroine is more than a super woman, she'd definitely more than a medical examiner too. Just make her a serious investigator and it might explain all that she does. Just got worn out from everything she was involved in.

loved the first one, this one was just ok

story was kinda predictable and the main character makes 1 bad decision after another . I loved the end of the first book in regards to love life but was disappointed by how it turned out and that really was a huge downside for me at least.

Good book

Story was interesting. Got a little slow at one point, but good overall. Will look for other books in the series.

A Bit Much

Murder, decomposition, lawyers, an earthquake, and the coroner becomes the detective. Really?
I very much didn’t like the ending, and the middle was long and drawn-out.
