About this listen

A Dungeon Core Guardian Series!

In a land surrounded by a frontier populated with powerful monsters, three nations stand alone. Their continued existence is owed to their relationship with seven dungeons and the mystical warriors that are bound in service to them - the Khanri.

Many eager hopefuls volunteer every year to undergo the trials to join the ranks of the secretive Khanri. The handful that are chosen find that the path to becoming one of the vaunted warriors is paved with the bones of countless dead.

The newest hopefuls Afton and Marty are embarking on their journey to fulfill their lifelong ambition of joining the ranks of the Khanri that serve the Dungeon Akashi. Along the way, a startling truth will be afforded them that will shake their understanding of their world to their very core. They will find out why the Khanri are always recruiting.

Disclaimer: This book contains the occasional expletive, violent repetitive deaths, near-godlike warriors, a snarky gnome, a mystery that slowly unravels, and a sadistic dungeon that has been unable to talk to anyone for way too long. Listen to it at your own risk.

Just above "Decent"

So, everyone is gushing over this book, why? Likely because anyone that leaves a less than stellar review and refunds the book has their review removed.

The book is just decent. It takes 3 hours before it gets anywhere. Before then its basically about the lead characters talking about their jobs, the fact they once found a couch cushion and that they're waiting for the letter telling them if they got into this amazing order.

It reads a lot like someone tried to imitate Brandon Sanderson, but couldnt keep to the same somber tones.

All in all, its a decent book, but its not as good as everyone claims. I wont return this book, because I might be getting the second book when it comes out. But again, its not as amazing as everyone seems to say.

Great book!

While most gamelit type books are rather “crunchy” with stats, this book takes a different tactic in using game-like ideas. It is almost as if the idea of game like interfaces is being discovered as a part of the story. Even with that, there is very little stats, and that itself is a part of the story. It is very well-written, and I think my biggest disappointment with the book is that book 2 is not immediately available! :-) it is an excellent story, and I highly recommend it!

THIS WAS SOOO GOOD

This was very unique and I loved it the story was very interesting and fast paced there wasn't bogging down of the story. the author had a story to tell and he told it. I loved the banter between the MC lol I'm not going to lie I would have pulled the same prank like Marty did in the shower on my friends as well if I could it was absolutely hilarious. I definitely cannot wait for the second book to come out! look do your selfs the favor and read this book you will not be disappointed.

on another note C.J McAllister did an absolutely phenomenal job

Tremendous Fun

From getting taken out by an idol, to getting slain by a potential love interest, to finding out you might be the most OP defender of them all. This series has the potential to have it all and I cannot wait for the next book in this series. C.J. McAllister did an amazing job breathing life the the characters. Kaden Reed, bravo. Very interesting concept. I highly recommend this book.

Slow start but worth the wait

So let me start off by saying I totally disagree with some of the negative ratings I saw on this book. Granted it is a slow start but when you let the story develop you can see the depth in detail with this story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys LITRPG. I’m hoping book 2 capitalizes on the potential of this series. Great performance by the narrator btw!

A great new take.

This book has a great story. It's different from most Dungeon Core book I've read and that's what I love about it. It really pulls you in and I feel I'm right along side the characters. I have always had a hard time finding books that pull me in and hold my attention but this one has me biting my nails waiting for the next book to come out. This is just a new series to my growing list that I will have to wait on. C.J. McAllister did an amazing job on the reading of it to. I hope he is able to do the whole series as it is released.

Great narration and but pace of the book was off

Overall I really liked the concept for this book and it had a great narration with a good range for the different characters. However, the pace of the plot was off. The first several hours of the book moved too slowly. I felt like the time spent was necessary in order to give background to the world the MC lives in, but it could have been done more organically. The middle of the book was great, perfectly paced and gave good depth to the main character and his team. But then the end of the book felt a little rushed leaving me a little confused as to everything that was happening.

Despite this, I'd still say it was a well written book and has great potential for the rest of the series.

Per my request I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my unbiased review.
