Critic reviews

“This is Elie Wiesel at his best, a highly revealing self-portrait of the man behind the world-famed persona.” (Herman Woulk)

“A biblical-like epic of a great man who has turned genocidal tragedy into a life force for world peace. I should be required reading for membership in the human race.” (Alan M. Dershowitz)

“Immensely moving [and] unforgettable, [with] the searing intensity of his novels and autobiographical tales... Will make you cry, yet somehow leaves you renewed, with a cautious hope for humanity's future.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Wiesel remains unequaled at bringing home the experience of horrific, nullifying disorientation that was the first step in the program of genocide known as the Final Solution.” (Daphne Merkin, The New York Times Book Review)

Loved it.

Moving. Beautiful. Heartbreaking and inspiring. What a treat to hear it read by Mr. Wiesel himself.

Incredible Story

I had no idea how incredible his story was and everything he had to endure. Yet he persevered and always remembered what he had been through. This book gave me a different perspective of very similar stories told by others that have survived the holocaust era.

More on the Life of Elie Wiesel

Loved listening to Mr Wiesel tell of his life and adventures. I wondered what it would be like for him to return to his former home. I learned in this book. Again great read.

A story of love and perseverance

I bought this book by accident, not knowing at the time that it’s abridged. I didn’t know then (a few years ago) that it could be returned. To say I was heartbroken is understated.
I read part of the printed version and it was the best Holocaust memoir I’ve ever read, and I have read many. I was thrilled to have it in audible, but I wanted the whole book.
PLEASE record the entire book. Mr. Weisel’s memories must respected and absolutely be available in their entirety. The abbreviated version does not do justice to the dreadful pain of the millions who suffered and died under the Nazi regime.

Searing memories of a boy who was a Jew and survived a concentration camp during WWII.
