About this listen

Someone is searching for the lost weapons of the H'san: powerful enough to destroy entire planets. Though the H'san gave up fighting long ago, the reappearance of their lost weapons would no doubt lead to a devastating war. It's up to Torin Kerr and her team to fix this problem before it explodes. But the more Torin learns about the relationship between the Elder and Younger races, the more she fears war might be unavoidable.

Hard to stop

Tanya keeps the story of Gunny interesting and familiar. Had a hard time stopping for work and as always eagerly awaiting the next book.

Loved it!

These characters are some of my favorites. Was so glad to get to know them again. Will be watching for the next audible book in the Ancient Peace series. The narrator Ms. Gavin is my all time favorite story teller. She makes the characters come to life...

Longer than the content justified

This is the weekest of an excellent series. The plot drags for nearly 6 hours. The non-stop swearing and sexual innuendo are getting a little tiring. I'm rethinking finishing the series. I'll read the reviews before deciding.

Similar to prison book.

I probably would have enjoyed the book more if I hadn't read the full series before. Especially the prison one just 2 books earlier

5 years caused voices to change

The narrator is the same from the original series but the voices are very different.
I wish the narrator had reviewed her past work before recording this. 😢
However I love Tanya Huff!
Great characters and world creation. Top notch creation of aliens and interactions.

Great Story, almost worth the wait, Narration is..

Any additional comments?

I LOVE Torin Kerr (main character), and the narrator (Marguerite Gavin) is the definitive voice of Torin Kerr. I cannot imagine her sounding like anyone else. Marguerite just nails the sarcasm, pessimism, and hope that Torin filters her view of life through. She's absolutely perfect as narrator for these books, and has, thankfully, narrated the entire series.

However, for some reason, she has forgotten what Craig sounds like! She's got Binty (Mishona) down pat, so that's still good, but Wresk and the other Cray (Kray?) don't sound the same as they used to either, but their voices are less jarring than Craig's voice. She's just all but killed Craig's likable qualities from the last few books with her voice portrayal of him in this latest installment.

Another minor negative in this audio version is that Torin talks to herself a lot (privately in her head, not out loud). In past books, Marguerite Gavin was able to somehow modulate her voice so that is was pretty clear if Torin was talking out loud or just thinking it to herself. In this book, she's lost that deft touch and it was much hard to distinguish between silent thoughts and actual dialogue. That was a bit distracting on numerous occasions, but it was minor, not major.

Voices aside, this is another excellent book from Tanya Huff. I've been waiting for this book for YEARS now, and it did not disappoint. Even better is that it is listed as Book One of a new series! I am thrilled with that, but I really hope Tanya can crank them out faster than this one took. Seriously, years? Far too long. Maybe take a class from Christopher Nutall, Richard Tongue, or Ryk Brown, all of whom have probably written an entire book in the time it took me to write this one review :-)

Good story

Love the Valor series and like where Huff is going with story.
But was very confused/put off by change in a major character's voice.
It made me confused every time I heard the voice, never got used to it.
I reread/listen to books on a series before read a new book, so I was used to Craig's voice the way it was in first series

even better!

The story continues, and the thoughts on war and piece are even more entertaining. Great characters, story, writing, etc.

Into the tombs

Another adventure with Torin and her crew. Now no longer in the Military, Torin is asked to find a group of mercenaries searching for the ancient weapons of the H'san, execute them and prevent any of the weapons from leaving the burial site. A great start to a new series starring Torin and her crew. Loved it and eagerly awaiting the next book.

Enjoyable Shift for Gunny

I was curious to see how the non-military focus would turn out and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend! - Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry
