Publisher's summary

People say you can’t ever go back. That some of the things that happen to us simply cannot be redone.

But the paths of a life journey are rarely straight. They twist and turn and wind back across those once visited and long thought to have faded from existence.

Becca Miller has lived her life trying to do the right thing, even when its cost has been giving up the boy she loved and wanted to marry. The sacrifice she made for her sister isn’t one she regrets because there was no other choice for her to make. And for 18 years, she lives this choice with full commitment and as little looking back as she can manage.

When Matt Griffith returns to Ballard County for the funeral of his grandmother, the path that had seemed so straight begins to loop back and take her across feelings she thought she had put away for good. As it turns out, those roads we’ve traveled do not fade at all. They simply wait to be retraveled, leaving us with the decision to follow them exactly as we did before, or make a different choice and find out where it will lead us.

Great story ruined by terrible narration

I enjoyed this story very much, but almost stopped listening all together because the narration was choppy and electronic sounding. I was so disappointed because the book I listened to right before this one had terrific narration. Audible should pull this until the narration is fixed. I almost called to get my money back. This sounds like a computer narrated this. Very disappointed since the story was sweet and engaging.

Why why why...

...would an author spend so much time writing a book then turn it over to someone who absolutely slaughtered the audio? This was the worst narrator I’ve ever heard. At first I thought it was some sort of digital voice because it sounded so robotic but then researched the narrator and nope - real person. How is it that someone making money in the book community can’t pronounce Bronte?! What a mess.

Poor narration

Unnecessary pauses and misplaced emphasis made it hard to follow parts of the book. I’ve listened to many audible performances and this is by far the worst I’ve heard. Story content held my attention so I suffered through the mispronounced words and strange affect of the narrator, Jessica J. W. Wells.

Great story - Poor narration

This is a good story but the stilted, halting narration deters from the enjoyment of the story. I listen to an audible book every day and this has to be the worst narration I have ever experienced. This is my second Inglath Cooper book. It was not as good as “A Month in Tuscany.”

Narration lacks flow and was too distracting

It is difficult to say if I enjoyed the story. The narration was very distracting. It seems she was trying to enunciate every syllable so carefully the words came out as a cross between a computer and a new reader. Every time the word "and" there was a pause before and after. Then, after all the care to enunciate, she pronounced "library" as LiBerry. The lack of flow made it near impossible to enjoy the story, let alone follow the story. Very disappointed.

Please get a new reader.

I wish there was a way I could message the author privately. But since there’s not this is the only place to tell you please get a different reader for this book. In fact redo it completely. It took me so many attempts to listen. In fact I probably bought this book a year ago. I can’t remember now. But I finally finished listening. And that I give credit to the author of the story. But the reader made me feel like I was in fifth grade again and the teacher let the other student read while everybody cringed waiting for them to stop. If you put the setting on 1.2. Speed. You can really hear the start and stops. It just sounded like it was the very first time she had ever read it. Which I know audible readers would never do. The only other thing I guess I could tell the author is that ...I had to relisten to the ending a second time to actually know how it ended and it was only apparent by one word in a letter. Not a scene. Which I think falls a little short for the story. But it’s very rich in details, drama, and tension. So a talented writer that I will try again. I just know if the voice is the same I won’t get past the first page.

Good story, SUPER annoying narration

The story was great but I found myself losing interest simply due to the narration. The narrator sounded like a computer system or a child who had just learned how to read. It was very irritating.

Narration Ruins a good story

I have really never written any review on Audible before. However, this performance was so appalling that I felt compelled to do it. This is a really good and mostly very realistic story. However, the narration at times was excruciating to listen to. I would think that somewhere there is a editor who listens to these before they are released to the public. This one totally was missed or escaped that process. This narrator reads like someone who is in fifth grade learning to read chapter books of length. There are many mispronounced words and names and a very halting speech pattern. Oddly enough, the dialogue seems to flow much better but the narration in between the dialogue is just plain awful. It was all I could do to finish the book but I did not I have time to sit down and read it for my book club. I really hope that someone goes back and re-narrates this book because it is a nice story.

I have never rated a book so lopsided.

The storyline was good but it was really hard to listen to the narrator. Maybe Jessica can be an accomplished narrator one day because she has a pleasant voice but the use of proper inflections needs to be mastered. I would purchase and listen to this book again with a different narrator

Good story, terrible recording

The recording was choppy and she read almost trying to over annunciate each word, not like a sentence with infliction. It was not good at all and very distracting to the story. Also there were a few moments now and then when it would burst into static sounds. Disappointing that I purchased such a poor narration!
