Publisher's summary

Angels of the Quantum Gate is science fiction with a twist. It is certainly science fiction with fantasy elements, but it is encapsulated in a wry, ironic, satirical first person narrative that is very convincing. It involves a simple man who is swept into galactic encounters, universal truths, and purposes that are beyond understanding. The sardonic evolves into the spiritual in a work that, somewhere, may require belief.

What’s real? Does it matter?

What a strange little tale! Magically real science fiction meets life, the universe, and everything. A quiet unassuming man gets tapped somehow for a series of inexplicable experiences and the fate of the world depends on his responses. His assigned task is to get someone to believe his story. No witnesses. No proof. Just tell the story and get someone to believe you.

I almost quit listening a few minutes in because the reading seemed “flat” and dull. It turns out that the voice is perfect. Donald Henson, the very ordinary first-person narrator in the story, has been told repeatedly to write down all that has happened. This book purports to be the latest of his many re-tellings. Donald still isn’t really sure what was or wasn’t “real”, or even what “real” means, and he’s a bit tired of re-writing it. Matt Franklin”s unemotional and uninflected voice is just right, sucking us into the enigmas of quantum theory - just an ordinary, rather dull man going about his ordinary, rather dull day, only afterwards realizing that he might just be a cat in a box, waiting for the lid to come off so he can find out if he’s dead or alive.

Funny, Thought provoking. Haunting questions. A book I’ll undoubtedly listen to again and again.
