Publisher's summary

For ballet dancer Laurel Berg, no amount of artistic expression ever seemed enough to satisfy the ravenous muse within her. Painting didn't have enough brush strokes, music didn't seem to have enough notes.

But when the company director announces Ace, front man of the band Apollo's Suns would have a special appearance in their new production, she had no idea she'd be amidst the King of the Muses himself.

And when magical things start happening, things she can't rationally explain, she'll discover there's more to rock star Ace than an ego the size of Mount Olympus and a dazzling smile that could put the sun to shame.

Apollo!

This is the second story in the "Contemporary Mythos" series. It is a stand alone read wtih connected characters or rather Gods. This is a nicely developed story about Apollo, the Greek God, and Laurel. I loved this story! Apollo and Laurel seem to really bring out the best in each other in every way. They both artists. Apollo is a rock star that goes by the name Ace and he and his band, Apollo's Sons, are famous. Laurel, is a dancer, who thinks Ace is very full of himself and is not impressed with the rock star. I love her name and how it brings about the myths surrounding Apollo. I love the witty and flirty banter going on between these two. As the two get to know each other feelings and emotions get involved. Such a good read with some interesting twists and turns. The story is nicely developed with drama, mistrust, jealousy, steamy passion, magical performance and a very happy ending. I listened to this story via Audible and the narrator did a good job. I really look forward to reading or listening to the story of Poseidon when it is released.

Entertaining

The narrator did a great job bringing this story to life. The author did a fantastic job in providing us with a well written, entertaining story that will keep your interest from start to finish. Job well done to both author and narrator.

Great story

Love this series and loved Apollo and Laurel’s story only thing is the performance was very monotone I wish there was the emotion you could see in the story come through in the telling. Aside from that LOVED IT!!!

book 2 Contemporary Mythos

Book 2 in Spade's Contemporary Mythos series. Great characters, Ace. Aka Apollo and Laurel. Ace is a cocky rock star but this god of the sun has no plans to give his heart to anyone. Laurel has been hurt before and guards her heart, especially from cocky rock stars. A fun, well written and narrated romance with mythology themes through out. I love getting to read/listen to these greek gods find the woman who bring them down a notch and their unique stories. Loved every minute of this read/listen!

Engaging modern romance — with a twist!

I loved the mythos here, brought to life in the tale of Apollo, the rock star, and Laurel, the ballet dancer. Both have a lot to overcome and learn as they fall in love and there’s an enchanting buildup as they come together. I love the notion of Greek gods finding love and fulfillment in this new modern age as much as I love the modern women they fall for.

The narration was wonderful. Very engaging and it drew me in. I found myself listening to the book in one go instead of in bits as I drive to and from work. Definitely recommend!

Baskerville Book Reviews

EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Oh em me, these two are adorable together. Laurel is always uppity and snooty with “Ace” and he always just grins and takes it. He cums off as the dashing, charming rogue type who can get any woman he wants, but he chooses the one that wants nothing to do with them. So every one of these scenes together is just slowly building up to when they finally started to have feelings for each other.

Laurel is much more likable as a protagonist than whatever her name was in the first book. She at least has some charm and personality and can hold her own against Aopllo. There is one trope I despise, (I don’t know the name of any tropes, to be honest) where somebody tells Laurel bad things about Apollo and she just believes it without getting his story. I wish that trope would die in a fire already. She stays mad at him for a few minutes and then is suddenly over it. It’s lazy writing and offers nothing to the story.

Their romance blossoms nicely over the course of the story at a believable rate and I was totally invested. I enjoyed the ending and I was happy to see characters from the first book make cameo appearances and mentions. It leaves me excited for more books in this series.

I’m not sure if this is a writing issue or a narration issue. At one point, the incorrect phrase “could care less” came up. For all of the people who don’t know how English words, it’s “couldn’t care less.” I could care less about my cat, that tells you nothing. I couldn’t care less about politics, that tells you something. I have a disdain for politics.

The narrator does a fine job for the most part. There are several scenes where characters enunciate a line and the narrator doesn’t, opting to just read off what the book says. I find that incredibly lazy and lackluster. The point of an audiobook is to be a performance. If the narrators aren’t going to put the effort in, why even bother listening when you could read it that way yourself? She also says “farmiliar”, which isn’t a word and can’t tell the difference between O and 0, both of which I find incredibly annoying.

Muse

This was such a beautiful and inspiring story. It was fun, and sweet. Laurel & Kate’s friendship was amazing - and the snark between Ace & Laurel was great.
