Publisher's summary
The plan? Pretend he’s her betrothed and try not to fall in love.
Sheriff Asher Steele doesn’t plan to settle down. Not ever. In fact, he avoids the ladies all together. And he doesn’t plan to explain why that is. No one’s been able to break through the walls of his emotions and that’s just the way he likes it. But when Isabelle Bowman comes to town with a secret of her own, and a heap of trouble following her, he might be the only one who can help her. What he’s not counting on is falling in love along the way and considering opening the walls of his heart to protect her.
Running from her half-brother, who desires nothing more than to kill Isabelle Bowman and take her inheritance, she’s desperate for a place to hide. Uninterested in marriage, she thinks the sheriff’s idea is preposterous. But she’s left with no option. With no funds, a sheriff who thinks she’s a troublemaker or a liar, and his plan that will never work, she’s sure things are not going to end well.
But could they both be wrong about what the future holds?

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Treat yourself to this audiobook! 5+ stars
Story Impressions –
Desperate for help, Isabelle agrees to the stoic sheriff’s plan for a fake engagement. Will it work? She assumes not but what happens when they actually fall in love? What an engrossing, historical western romance audiobook. The story captivated me while the narration whisked me away. This is my third audiobook by Sarah Lamb and Spencer Dillehay. It's such an immersive listen. I swear, this is one of the narrators. I could listen to him narrate him anything. If you love listening to audiobooks, especially historical western romance, treat yourself to Asher’s Secret.
Narrator’s overall voice – Spencer has a personality all his own which he projects. It has a velvetiness I thoroughly enjoyed.
Does the narrator fit the characters? Yes, he fits the characters. I’m astonished at how well he evokes the different characters, including Asher and Isabelle.
Narrator’s reading style – He has a dramatic reading style to keep the listener entranced. I was instantly transported.
Narrator’s impact on reading experience – Spencer has an intrinsic ability to draw a listener/reader in without any effort. The scenes are so well narrated, I had to stop what I was doing to listen to the story.
Narrator’s pacing – Spencer’s pacing is flawless. I was transfixed while listening.
Audiobook flow – He lets the audiobook develop naturally through the use of dialogue, narration, and characterization.
What makes this audiobook unique – Spencer and the author partner up to bring readers/listeners an absorbing historical western romance. The subject matter is poignantly acted in this audiobook.
Would I recommend this audiobook – YES! Treat yourself to this audiobook.
