Publisher's summary

It’s been four years since Keiran learned the truth of what happened to his world.

Four years of research and marshaling his resources, four years of experimentation in a futile attempt to recover a faint echo of all that has been lost. His refuge has grown in size and population, and he’s begun to spread knowledge of the old ways of magic in an attempt to revive the lost art to humanity.

There are no more answers to be found at home, and it’s time Keiran sees what’s out there with his own eyes. Armed with more mana than ever, he leaves his sanctuary to explore what’s left of the old kingdoms of the world and plumb their depths for lost secrets.

What he finds is a civilization wrapped up in mysteries and lies, ones that could threaten to break the world a second time.

Keiran will have to untangle it all before it’s too late.

good until near the end, might drop now.

without major spoilers, most of the book was great! other than him progressing way to fast for my tastes. what got my goat might not get yours, but it basically boils down to the MC getting an arch nemesis big bad that is just as if not more powerful than him. while I don't mind that by itself, it's fundamentaly changed the structure of the story I tuned in to hear, that of a very knowledgeable skilled mage slowly rebuilding his power and expanding his influence. I'm afraid that the next books will simply devolve into an all encompassing war and a race against time as he gets more powerful while constantly dogged by the ungodly strong forces of his foe, and that's just something I'm not into

I thought this was going to be a solo adventure,

I thought this was to be solely about MC and his journey to fix the issue with magic. however the sister was paired with him on his maiden journey, I didn't much care for his sister before as she was just annoying. she wasn't so prominent in book 2 so it wasn't an issue and I didn't think she would've had a significant role in driving this story in this book, but I guess the cover is/was my warning hint. anyway I don't want to say too much more...maybe its voice that's used..well whatever it is, I don't care for it and it kinda messes with my listening experience and adds a dynamic for lack of a better word, that I don't care for.
