Publisher's summary

One pre-apocalyptic Earth. One desperate space mission to find a solution. One unexpected alien.

When Dr. Sakota Thorell signed onto the mission to scout out a new, habitable planet, she knew discovering extraterrestrial life was always a possibility. But she never expected to find an alien adrift in space, nor for that alien to be so intriguing. Sakota feels an instant and undeniable attraction to Astraeus, but he represents a million possibilities, and just as many threats.

There are others hunting Astraeus, and his rescue may cost Earth its last hope.

Is and isn’t your typical alien story

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I quite enjoyed the story. It has an interesting take on alien physiology.
Floating out in space is a human looking man- he’s not wearing a spacesuit- how is that possible he’s alive? As Dr Sakota tries to communicate with, and understand the alien’s origin and circumstances, the head of security wants to interrogate him, and not too nicely. There is a constant struggle between the scientists and the military. As trust builds between the alien ‘Astraeus’ and Dr. Sakota, we learn more about him, including that there are other aliens and these ones are not peaceful. The threat by them becomes imminent and everyone must work together to fend them off or Earth’s survival will be threatened.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Steve Campbell ) and I would listen to another. He has a good pace and style. He brings out each characters personality and brought the story to life. He uses accents and has good female voices.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Sci-fi Romance

This book isn't completely what I was expecting, It goes much more heavy on the romance aspects then I was expecting which I am not a huge fan of but it was still enjoyable and had a really good Sci Fi story in the mix. It takes place on Science Research space ship that is exploring the universe trying to find a suitable planet for habitation as humans have pretty much destroyed Earth's environment by this point and life on earth is very dismal and on the brink of destruction/extinction. While travelling through space they find a humanoid alien just drifting in space with no spacesuit at all and he happens to be alive. They take him in and Dr. Sakota Thorell trys to heal him as well as study him as he is the first alien life ever encountered. The alien who Sakota names Astraeus is very handsome, extremely strong and has a very different biology on the inside, like two hearts. As she helps him they develop a bond and she is the only one that he will communicate with which doesn't sit well with the very brash/macho security officer and there are quite a few tense moments. Sakota and Astraeus develop a relationship during their encounters as she is tasked with finding out more about him and if he poses any threat to the ship.

The narration by Steve Campbell was very good and really adds to the story. I found the story to be interesting and really liked some aspects of it and some of the surprise twists. Some things felt a bit abrupt to me though and I felt could of been fleshed out better. The romance was played up a bit much for me but I know others will quite like it.

Outstanding Story!

I absolutely loved this sci-fi romance filled with adventure, suspense and action. There are quite a few surprises in this tale that you won’t see coming. In addition to the two awesome main characters, there are ancillary characters that you will initially hate and then come to respect and several that you will care about very much as you become fearful for their survival. Enjoyable listen

The basic plot is earth is dying, a ship is sent out to find a new world, and they find a lone alien that looks mostly human... then ensues peaceful vs military arguments, and ultimately a love story.

There is action, drama, and a solid plot. While the twist at the end clearly sets up a series, it’s not a cliffhanger and this is a complete plot.

The narration fit the story well, and didn’t distract you from the world of the story.

Discovering extraterrestrial life was fascinat...

Earth on the verge of one final blow that would take the world to apocalyptic states. The mission that was deemed necessary to find a solution to Earth's issues. And the one doctor (woman) that stood in the way of Earth's possible future.

Astraeus was a science fiction alien romance that gave me as good as I got. Dr. Sakota Thorell was a strong willed woman that was on the forefront of a possible new chance for Earth and all her inhabitants. She just didn't count on an alien, the attraction, or the threat to the world she was sent to try and save.

Narration was well received. I enjoyed listening to the cadence of Steve Campbell's voice. I loved the clarity of his voice. The tone and pitch matched the surrounding story. Discovering extraterrestrial life was fascinatingly fun with this story and the narrator to guide you along the way.

Wow oh wow

A great science fiction romance that does not totally focus on the romance aspect. There was plenty of action, suspense and adventure in this book with quite a few surprises that you never see coming. The narrator did a great job making me feel like I was taking the journey with the great characters in this story.

Really Good Story

This book was really good, although to me not the typical paranormal romance. It was so funny when the men from the ship were trying to carry Astraeus and they thought he weighed about 400 pounds. Astraeus was so kind and gentle. You knew this when he shared his memories with Sakota. Rutledge was a horrible person, who gets what he deserves. What Astraeus said sums it up about humans: He said it disheartens him to see how poorly we treat each other and how shallow our people can become. We are an exasperating species. Love and compassion exist among us yet brilliant souls are treated like filth because of the color of their skin, geniuses are scorned because of their sexual orientation, wars are waged when one religion condemns another for not holding the same beliefs. It amazed Astraeus that humans are able to function when animosity runs rampant among humans. If only humans could see this. Everyone needs to read this book and take something from it. I would definitely recommend this book.

Steve Campbell did a good job with the narration.

Started Slow But Ended Up Being A Decent Story

At first I almost stopped listening but I am glad I didn't it ended up being a good story. The narration was a little bland I thought but it is worth it once you get over the slow start.
