Story
Rico has a problem. The experimental program that gave him the high intelligence and lightning reflexes he needs as a hit man for a galactic crime syndicate left him incapable of internalizing moral imperatives the rest of us take for granted. It takes real effort for him to pass as a normal human being and he avoids it whenever he can. But he has a job he loves, a fast ship, and plenty of cash. So life is good.

Henry Lambert would rather play video games than spend time in the great outdoors - but that doesn't make him a wuss. Skinny nerd? Fine. But wuss is a little harsh. Sadly, his dad doesn't agree. Which is why Henry is being shipped off to Strongwoods Survival Camp. Strongwoods isn't exactly as advertised. It looks like the victim of a zombie apocalypse, the "camp director" is a psycho drill sergeant, and Henry's sure he saw a sign written in blood...

That is to say, he is an expert, and his area of study is nothing, and he does nothing about it.

Story
What would happen if the ancient prophecy of the End of Days came true? It is certainly the last thing Eric Katz, a secular archaeologist from Los Angeles, expects during what should be a routine dig in Jerusalem. But perhaps higher forces have something else in mind when a sign presaging the rising of the Third Temple is located in America, a dirty bomb is detonated in downtown Tel Aviv, and events conspire to place a team of archaeologists in the tunnels deep under the Temple Mount.

Orson Scott Card is a master storyteller, who has earned millions of fans and reams of praise for his previous science-fiction and fantasy works. Now he steps a little closer to the present day with this chilling look at a near-future scenario: a new American Civil War. The American Empire has grown too fast, the fault lines at home are stressed to the breaking point, and the war of words between Right and Left has collapsed into a shooting war.

Perfect Choices
When the powers that be made the choice of who should write the novelization of ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES, they chose the perfect author for the job! Jeff Strand was the perfect choice, he understands the humor of the film and wrote a great novelization. When the powers that be made the choice of who should perform the audiobook, they chose the perfect narrator for the job! Joe Hempel gave what listeners have come to expect as far as a fantastic reading but his sing alongs is what really set him apart in his performance. Joe Hempel singing Puberty Love is so jaw dropping I nearly took a star away from the story because Strand obviously should have written in another 13 pages of Puberty Love lyrics throughout the book. Listeners obviously are gonna feel a bit disappointed not getting Joe Hempel singing Puberty Love more, but then I realized that Strand had not heard how unbelievable the singing of Puberty Love by Joe Hempel would be or he would have certainly added more singing of the song throughout the book. Hindsight is 20/20 so decided to not hold that against Strand.

Great action adventure
Giant, sentient tomatoes vs a giant squid! Action, adventure, bad music. Who could ask for anything more?

If Mel Brooks wrote horror
Such a fun listen. Joe Hempel did a terrific job of keeping the listening experience infused with energy, charm and wit. He hit the perfect tone and pace to match the book's Mel-Brooks-style of comedy, callbacks and self deprecation. Tons of pop-culture references by the author added to the fun.

Absolutely fantastic!
I loved Attack of the Killer Tomatoes by Jeff Strand. The book had everything - humor, satire, singing alone and a sing-along, blood, gore, romance, lots more of absurdity, squids, and of course, killer tomatoes. It was a wonderful afternoon distraction and I never before laughed out loud so much while listening to a book. The narrator Joe Hempel was perfect in his performance of the zany characters and wacky situations in the story. I am certain that his performance made the hilarious book 100x better in every way! Highly recommend this book for an afternoon of farcical fun!

What a perfect match!
As soon as I heard the announcement that Strand was writing the novelization for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, I knew it was going to be great. His mix of horror and humor is perfect for this story. And then I listened to it… and it’s even better than I expected! The way Strand takes this and makes it his own all while being faithful to the absolute crazy plot is top notch. I laughed out loud many times and Joe Hempel added even more to it with his spot on narration. I can’t even imagine how much fun he had in the booth with this one. Highly recommended!

Puberty Love!
This has to be the silliest, most absurd book that I have read in a long, long time. But, I loved it! Full of cheesy dialogue, ludicrous characters and horrible singing, this book is a great homage to those 1950's sci-fi films I grew up watching.
The author has done a great job paying tribute to the movie, but has added his own twisted sense of humor to make this wildly entertaining.
The narrator is one of my favorites and his performance is absolutely perfect for this book. My only complaint is that I don't have a full version of the song "Puberty Love" to listen to, complete with musical accompaniment!

Not as much singing as I was expecting
Hilarious! Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is completely transformed into comic perfection by Strand. This novel is a genre-maker that incorporates elements of novelization, premise enlargement, close reading, and spoof of a spoof. The added potential of the written word and the lack of financial restrictions allow for the full development of all the comedy that the film never quite manages to deliver.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the craziest story I’ve ever listen to. It’s definitely different. The narrator did a good job of delivering the story and it’s craziness. I have actually seen the movie and this book is just as odd and amusing.

BRILLIANTLY HILARIOUS
I was afraid this audiobook had peaked in the prologue, cause it was just that freaking funny, but no. It stays funny, and I'm currently texting ppl to recommend they listen to it. Loved the movie, and loved this novelization!

Tomato Meta Movie Fun
I laughed out loud many, many times. The audiobook takes full advantage of the medium by opening with a sing along and breaks the fourth wall. It's good. I received a copy of this book free of charge for the purpose of an unbiased review.
