About this listen

Beauty and the Beast meets Criminal Minds in this murder mystery romantic suspense.

After an attack on the job, Homicide Detective Isobel 'Bel' Emerson takes her dog and moves to the small town of Bajka in search of a less stressful life and career. But the quaint town's peace is disturbed when a local furniture designer is murdered, his body posed to look like a human chandelier. Thrust back into the fray, Bel must confront her personal demons as she investigates an impossible case, and as bodies turned into household objects start to pile up, all clues point to the reclusive millionaire who just bought the abandoned mansion at the edge of town.

Eamon Stone is as dangerous as he is handsome, and Bel can't shake the feeling that there's more to his presence in Bajka than meets the eye. Something about him is familiar, and while she knows he's a threat, she can't fight his pull. Like a moth to flame, she's drawn to the man stalking her, to the only murder suspect they have. Bel fears he craves her blood as much as she craves his presence. She fears he is the evil hunting this town...the beast hunting her.

Loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast, Autopsy of a Fairytale is a crime series romantic suspense perfect for those who like dark fairytales, murder mystery procedurals (like AMC's The Killing or NBC's Hannibal), romance, found family, and a hint of fantasy. Each book will be based on a different fairytale, but Bel (and her Beast) will connect them all, her story ending on small cliffhangers in each book.

What listeners say about Autopsy of a Fairytale

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Is A Unique Blend Of Genres, Combining Elements Of A Murder Mystery, Fantasy, And A Retelling Of The Classic Fairytale Beauty And The Beast. While The Intriguing Plot Twists, Engaging Mystery, And Clever Incorporation Of Fantasy Elements Are Widely Praised, Some Listeners Felt The Romance Aspect Was Lacking And The Supernatural Components Were Confusing At Times. The Story Starts Off Slowly But Picks Up Pace, Keeping Listeners Hooked With Its Suspenseful Narrative And Captivating Fairytale Retelling. However, Some Found The Ending Unsatisfactory And The Characters Underdeveloped. Overall, It Offers An Interesting Twist On The Beloved Fairytale, Blending It With A Gripping Crime Investigation And Fantastical Elements.

Kept me guessing until the end

Wish there was a male narrating for the main character male but it had so many interesting twists. Wasn’t expecting the ending and liked it more than I thought I would

unexpected supernatural twist

I was anticipating more romance and more obvious supernatural elements and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't shape the whole story. I loved the nods to the classic beauty and the beast stories (including the 6 sisters!) As someone who started Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King and Dean Koontz this felt reminiscent in style. I enjoyed the character development and the fact that the supernatural piece was left to the end and I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series!
