About this listen

Frederick Forsyth is back with a Avenger! A heart-stopping thriller of murder, intrigue, deception, and revenge

Attorney Calvin Dexter hangs his shingle in a quiet New Jersey town, has a reasonably successful practice, and takes the hills strong while triathlon training. But Dexter is no ordinary lawyer. On Sundays, he reads the paper and shuffles around his dark, empty house, trying to forget about a life he has lost forever.

Until, of course, Dexter reads something in the papers that sends him the necessary signal. Until one of the handful who know of Dexter's other life tries to contact him. For in a world that has forgotten right and wrong, few can settle a score like Cal Dexter can.

But the game is changing, and this time CIA agent Kevin McBride must find a way to stop Dexter before his quest for vengeance throws the world into chaos.

Excellent Listen

I have read some of FF's books in print, but this was my first listen. The book is excellent to the very end. Reminiscing with a grin; yes very much to the Very End. I never rate a book a five and so a four for me is a very good book indeed. I would highly recomend it. Perhaps my military background allowed me to relate to it more, but its excellent.

Didn't want this book to end!

Would you consider the audio edition of Avenger to be better than the print version?

Not sure - don't have the print version, but I thoroughly enjoyed Eric Conger's narration.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The author wove several stories together, causing more depth than if just one plot was in play. Because of this, all elements worked together to create a greater than usual thriller.

Have you listened to any of Eric Conger’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to several. He definitely has a gift.

Any additional comments?

I've got a few hundred audio books in my library and it is very rare that at any point I think, "I don't want this book to end." This was definitely one of those books!

tons of history information

Too much background. Boring. Put me to sleep a couple times. Made my mind wander. It starts with going to find what happened to a young man. Turns
into Vietnam war and previous wars and crooked people. I quit

Monotone

Story was decent, but too much flipping around in my opinion. Performance was so monotone I felt like falling asleep every time I listened except at the denouement. Decent story tho. I ground my way to the end, but I have heard worse for sure. Wouldn't listen again if read by the same performer.

Could not put it down!

Typical Forsyth novel... great momentum that keeps going until the very end. Not a shoot-em-up romp, but a sophisticated read that is as finely woven as an Egyptian cotton shirt. Forsyth unfolds his plot through a series of vignettes that culminate into an enjoyable and memorable climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel!

Keeps one interested!

I have been a fan of the author for years and have always enjoyed his novels; this one is informative as to how, when, where, and why the US is the world's policeman. There is always someone that will take the contract and do the job- The Avenger!

Forsyth at his best

If you like a good thriller with true to life characters from the 7 pm evening news, don't miss reading or listening to Avenger. This is true Forsyth at his best. Once you start listening, it is oh so hard to stop.

Amazing story. I think I was there.

I love history. This book helps me to better understand and appreciate what troops and some civilians must have gone through. If you hate war, love well written stories and want your sense of justice to be satisfied - listen this one. (Great voice too.)
