Publisher's summary

On the eve of destruction, four demons awaken....

There was once a time where demons and Grim Reapers lived with humans. They kept their identity a secret from most and tried to keep balance between their two worlds. Everything was going well and both sides were able to live in peace. Hiding from the human world was Tartarus Sanctum, a place where Apprentices to the Grim Reaper could live and learn their craft of reaping souls. In addition, four Apprentices were chosen to keep balance in the Upper World and the Underworld. This year, the responsibility had fallen on four young demons: Yuka, Tessa, Kaska, and Avani. They were known as Guardians of the Underworld and were expected to follow through with their responsibilities.

But the girls were not ready to take on big responsibilities or prepare themselves for the future. At the moment, all they want to have as normal of a life as possible. Not everyone else felt that way so they chose to run from Tartarus Sanctum. It was when they ran away that the whole world came apart. In one night, the other Apprentices were murdered and their home was destroyed. Now demons and humans are against each other. There is a war on the rise. Both worlds are collapsing and hope lies with the new Guardians. They are awake. They are ready. But they have a long way to go before they can save the world.

Awakened

Great start to a new series. The story is well written with strong characters. Looking forward to the next book.

The narration could have been so much better. The narrators voice was strong and easy to follow. But there were quite a few places in the story were a sentence or part of the sentence was repeated, it was very frustrating after a few chapters

I received this audible from the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

This was an interesting book to listen to.

The concept of this story is very interesting and very unique. It talks about four young girls that are chosen to be The Reaper's Apprentices. They are taken away from their homes to live with demons and train to become Grim reapers. The girls feel that it is too much responsibility and just want to live as normal teenage girls. I enjoyed the premise that the girls are both, human and demon, and are on a journey to choose which side they belong to. I would definitely recommend this book to people that love Mystery, Thriller & Suspense stories. The parts that I dislike about the book is that it didn't take enough time to build the world, some parts of the book felt rushed and there were trouble/ errors with the audio (The reader would repeat the same lines three times).

Loved it

The reapers apprentice was one of my favorites and I listen to alot of stories. I found it interesting and the story line always entwining and entertaining. The narrator was smooth and easy to tell who was who.

I was given this book free in return for my opinion and it is one of the best yet :)

What did you like best about this story?

Great character and world building.

I really didn't have a favorite.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No but I enjoyed the story.

Any additional comments?

Awakened: The Reaper’s Apprentice Book 1 was a solid book. Four young ladies learn they are demons. Not just demons but the next guardians. But they are young, teenagers, and have no desire to take on the responsibility. The girl’s want to be young and do as young girls do fighting against their chosen path at every turn. It isn’t until tragedy strikes that they buck up and accept the challenge.
I really enjoyed the story. The characters were carved and developed into believable souls. And the world created was believable. There was a part that was a little confusing towards the end but I can’t say. The story held my interest and made me curious and anxious to start book 2.
I listened to the audio version narrated by C.J. McAllister. He did a great job narrating and even changing his voice per character.
