  • "The odd little song that Sonny had scribbled onto shirt cardboard soared to the top of the British charts and remained there for two weeks. Our previous songs quickly followed suit. Within days we were singing “I Got You Babe” on the TV shows Top of the Pops and Ready Steady Go! and posing for what felt like hundreds of photos in the clothes we wore every day, all of which seemed to blow people’s minds. The difference in London was that not one person called us freaks and everyone seemed to accept us as merely quirky. Soon, we’d have people running up and wanting to touch us. There was one lovely moment when we went to buy Sonny some cigarettes in a tobacco shop and a sweet old lady pulled out a notebook and asked me to sign it. That was so touching, and I happily signed the first British autograph of my career, with the same Love, Cher that I’d been practicing since I was eleven." … Cher.
