Publisher's summary

No one had seen the innocuous rock on the long climb to the pass on the Oregon Trail, and when the last covered wagon in the long line rolled onto the lump of granite, it shouldn’t have made much of a difference, but it caused almost instant tragedy.

Just seconds later, the wagon plunged over the edge of the narrow trail, then began its deadly, tumbling roll into the abyss, spewing its contents as it fell to its destruction. Her precious children had been trapped inside, and Rebecca could only watch in horror. Her children had been her life, and now she had nothing.

Always a great read

This story caused a bit of controversy in my spirit. I am still trying to confront this controversy but I grateful I am able too. Petit always provides adventure and thought provoking moments. I find myself needing to hear the narrator often, when I feel this way I come back here to remedy the situation :-)

Another fine story.

I’m surprised by the other reviews because this is definitely one of my favorite CJ Petit books. I’ve just listened to it for the second time, and I really enjoyed it again.
I will say that Mr Petit’s books are not typical westerns. They are more love stories than the other modern ones, but I like them better. His character development and plots are generally good and unique. He’s just an excellent storyteller and this is an excellent story! If you have liked any other of his stories, you’ll like this one. If you’ve never tried one, this is a good one to start with. I’ve listened to all his audio books and have greatly enjoyed the vast majority.
Enjoy!

ì liked the undertone of doing the right thing will overco.me evil. but being gentle does not mean being weak.

I liked the gentle nature of the story. and the real human drama that plays out over time. the true importance of family is my take away.

A beautifully crafted story of loss and grief, and happiness, belonging. this a masterpiece begging for a series. me too

Begging for more episodes.
they story line is strong enough to keep it going.
I want know about the Oregon property. How the relationship becomes solidified. About the neighbors, community, the lumber, the minerals.
c'mon CJ, sir, keep this one going. Too rich to let it lay. Want me to throw out some story boards?

Romance

Nothing but a romance novel. From the picture and the description, I thought it was about travel on the Oregon Trail. It turned out to be just a romance novel couldn’t listen to it all.
