Publisher's summary

It's an open secret that the newest justice on the Supreme Court is a lesbian. So when the Court decides to hear a case about gay marriage, Justice Victoria Willoughby must navigate the press, sway at least one of her conservative colleagues, and confront her own fraught feelings about coming out.

Just when she decides she's up to the challenge, she learns that the very brilliant, very out Genevieve Fornier will be lead counsel on the case.

Genevieve isn't sure which is causing her more sleepless nights: the prospect of losing the case, or the thought of who will be sitting on the bench when she argues it.

Contains mature themes.

Top Notch

This is one of the most enthralled books I have had the pleasure of listening to or reading. The story line and all the characters are crafted to perfection. I ordered the second book before I finished this on. Well done!

Barring Complications

I loved the premise of this book but the execution wasn’t my favorite, for me. It was split into different sections, about 6 chapters each. Each section was a different Mc point of view. If you like show burn, it’s the slowest I’ve ever read. Two things that are hard for me: the internal monologues are about 60% of it and flashbacks were used in the first half a lot. This did not keep my attention. There were parts that made me laugh out loud. Like I said, I like the premise. I listened to the audiobook and it was ok. There’s a second book and I would have listened to it if it was available.

Really enjoyed this book

I already listening to the second book, I have enjoyed this book a lot, a little drama, two MC who are so different but so interesting. This book is well written, and narration by Samantha Cook was excellent.

Excellent Story!

This was a great story! It brought back fond memories of 2013 when the Supreme Court struck down DOMA, and Prop 8 in California. My wife and I married in California in 2008 before the passing of Prop 8 which then made us a separate class of people because we were married and they couldn’t do away with our marriage. I remember crying when they announced the ruling. It made me so hopeful of the future. Look at us now. The plot development was spot on! The two main characters were really wonderful and glad the got their happy ending! The narrator was excellent as well.

Important moment in history

Some things seemed implausible - that a gal raised in the USA by French parents would have an accent, or that the one gal would be home alone wearing high heels while snacking in the kitchen. The narrator spoke with peculiar gravitas in her voice even when describing really mundane matters. I still listened to the whole story. It was okay, but slightly pretentious and annoying, to quote a line in the book. The characters didn’t seem as mature as their chronological ages either in the flash backs or their law school years or as legal professionals , twenty years later.
