About this listen
After The Joker’s death, Batman and Gotham City face a mysterious new threat in this direct sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic Batman.
The Joker is dead, but not forgotten. Gotham City is saved, but it is still not safe. By night, its new symbol of hope, Batman, continues his fight to protect the innocent and the powerless. By day, his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, wonders whether there may someday be a future beyond skulking the city’s rooftops or the cavernous halls of his stately manor alongside the ever-dutiful Alfred Pennyworth.
But even after death, the Clown Prince of Crime’s imprint can be seen in more than just the pavement. Remnants from The Joker’s gang are leading wannabes fascinated by his bizarre mystique on a campaign of arson that threatens the city—even as it serves greedy opportunists, including millionaire Max Shreck. And survivors of exposure to The Joker’s chemical weapon Smylex continue to crowd Gotham City’s main hospital.
To quell the chaos, Batman needs more than his cape and his well-stocked Utility Belt. Bruce Wayne is forced into action, prompting a partnership with a charismatic scientist to help solve the health crisis. But as he works in both the shadows and the light, Bruce finds himself drawn deeper into Gotham City’s turmoil than ever before, fueling his obsession to save the city—an obsession that has already driven a wedge between him and Vicki Vale. The loyal Alfred, who had hoped Bruce’s efforts as Batman could help him find closure, finds the opposite happening. Nightmares begin to prompt Bruce to ask new questions about the climactic events in the cathedral, and investigations by Commissioner Gordon and reporter Alexander Knox into the arsons only amplify his concerns.
Having told the people of Gotham City that they’d earned a rest from crime, Batman finds the forces of evil growing ever more organized—and orchestrated—by a sinister hand behind the scenes. The World’s Greatest Detective must solve the greatest mystery of all: Could The Joker have somehow survived? And could he still have the last laugh against the people of Gotham City?

Along with Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman, the Joker stands out as one of the most recognizable comics characters in popular culture. While there has been a great deal of scholarly attention on superheroes, very little has been done to understand supervillains. This is the first academic work to provide a comprehensive study of this villain, illustrating why the Joker appears so relevant to audiences today.

Marc Spector is used to voices in his head. He’s used to waking up disoriented, unsure what his alters, Jake and Steven, might have been up to. He’s used to having an Egyptian god command him as Moon Knight, his avatar of justice and revenge. What he’s not used to: staring into the face of a literal, out-of-body doppelganger. Another Marc, crash-landed from an alternate reality, begging for help? Yeah, that is a new one, even for him. But before he can really process anything beyond Khonshu’s incessant alarm bells, it becomes clear this other Marc didn’t travel solo.

Taunted and tormented by other children, Matt's life was irrevocably altered after he was blinded by radioactive materials while saving the life of an old man. The payoff? An unbreakable will and a keen intelligence, helping focus the super-senses with which he was blessed during the accident. His story is one of love, pain, disappointment, and strength.

Interesting and Entertaining.
Inserting many of the classic Batman themes from the comics and other movies in the Batman '89 world is awesome. Also the call out to the sequel and introducing other villains is great.
The narration is excellent. The challenge of trying to replicate Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton's performance is too much to ask of any performer but he does a good as possible.

GOOD STORY - NOT GREAT!
I felt a bit let down here. I'm glad this involved the Michael Keaton from his FIRST Batman movie, inst÷÷ the freaky one with Danny Devito's raunchy, disgusting Penquin and Michelle Pfeiffer's nutjob Catwoman.
The Bruce/ Batman/ Alfred / Gordon, with some Knox back-and-forth was good, and Clayface/ Hugo, and Thug(s) was helpful.
Still, disappointed at the end. A little background, music would be nice. 35 years - My Wife and I got Married the sane year. Now, we have 3 Grandkids.
Good read, and listen - Fine narration, too.

Excellent sequel
Good story considering what they had to work with. Wraps up a lot of hanging threads from Batman '89 which was nice. My only (small) complaint is that it kept reminding me about something that happened in one of the Arkham games. Looking forward to the next book in 2025.

Two Jokers in every deck!
A well thought out sequel that fits into the “Burton-Verse” like a glove. The dialogue for all the returning characters feels genuine to each. There is one loose end that leaves the door open for sequels without being consequential to the main story, and seems to negate the Schumacher films.

One of the best Batman books ever! A fantastic sequel to Batman 89. This is the best universe of Batman stories, and since WB aren’t very smart and won’t give us a true Batman 3 or Batman Beyond with Keaton, this will do great until then.
