if you are a pantser this book is for you!

I picked this book up on a whim, along with the audio portion of it.

This is a book about how to write faster, and in this one he advocates not having an outline. this is fine, because everyone is different. I personally think that as a writer you need to find your own way, writing with an outline or without.

The author has some useful tips for addressing certain things when you hit problems with writing. I think the favorite one that I found was having scrivener for iOS. I do not have a phone that would support that right now. But if you do I think you should try it.

I'm not a fan of some other techniques - he's very much about "the universe" and such - but that's his walk.

I think everyone can find something interesting.

for example - he talked about fear and some of the of the ones he faces (like rejection - I can relate) and how to cope. The best thing he says, you can't defeat fear, just cope with it (paraphrasing).

The narrator was friendly and had a great cadence. So I hope this author uses him again.

I do recommend this book.

Not much substance

The narrator was really good and book was easy to listen to, it flowed nicely and the author is likeable. There just wasn't much advice other than write as much as you can, whenever, wherever and however you can, track your word count, don't be afraid or lazy, etc. You know, the usual. It's not a bad book by any means, but it doesn't really teach you what it promises to teach you. It really felt like a first draft and I thought it could have benefitted from a couple of more drafts, just to turn it up a knotch. There are other books out there that are better, more systematic and more helpful, at least to me. I recommend books by Chris Fox, Rachel Aaron, K.M. Weiland and James Scott Bell.

An immensely helpful book!

If you've ever awakened with the intention to write but had your head hit the pillow later that night with zero words written, this book is for you. Unlike many other books, this one doesn't insist you need to write 10k words per day to be prolific.

The author tackles writer's block and fear, and gives truly useful ways to counteract them.

In this book you'll find questions few other craft writers address—including a thoughtful critique of outlines and multiple drafts.

If you're not writing or not writing as much as you'd like, it's very likely this book will help you locate the reason and solve the problem.

Excellent

I really like this author. He’s really new to me. I stumbled across his YouTube channel and when I saw that he wrote this book I not only loved his voice but his inspiration is really resonating with me as well. What I like the most is that he talks about values for writers that are similar to Dean Wesley Smith. So it’s a very creative and inspirational read but also instructional. I think this is a must read for any writer but also for those writers who like to write without an outline.

Bookworm Speaks!- Be a Writing Machine

This title is something of mixed bag for someone who has read several books on writing and watched many Youtube videos about the writing process. I desire to be a prolific author as the title says and therefore has studied the craft accordingly. There are several pieces of advice the author gives that feel foolish. The biggest one is the tirade against the rough draft. Almost every other instructor I have had says that the first draft is supposed to be the worst copy of all. Getting it right the first is frankly impossible and to suggest otherwise can come across as arrogant posturing. To be fair...the author does say that the aspiring author should work to hone their craft so that it increases the chances of getting it right earlier.
This and several other pieces of advice give this volume a three for Pretty Good but there is plenty of excellent advice as well. The author advocates for pantsing writing which is Bookworm's preferred style and they give permission to take naps on the job! The biggest piece of advice though is "Don't Be Afraid" Advice everyone needs if they want the life they want, writers or otherwise. Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear.
