The Carmichaels and the Grahams have gathered on Nantucket for a wedding. Plans are being made according to the wishes of the bride's late mother, who left behind The Notebook: specific instructions for every detail of her youngest daughter's future nuptials. Everything should be falling into place for the beautiful event - but in reality, things are far from perfect.
While the couple-to-be are quite happy, their loved ones find their own lives crumbling. In the days leading up to the wedding, love will be questioned, scandals will arise, and hearts will be broken and healed. Elin Hilderbrand takes readers on a touching journey in Beautiful Day - into the heart of marriage, what it means to be faithful, and how we choose to honor our commitments.

What did you like best about Beautiful Day? What did you like least?
I liked best the wit and humor of the father and in laws. Least - the drama and long and drawn out Margot - she was not a fun character. Would like to have bridged the gap of The Surfing Lesson and Beautiful Day-- Left you hanging so was hoping to hear more detail of the end of the marriage of Margot, as her husband seemed to be a free spirit. Would like to have more humor in places like Something Borrowed to give it a little more edge. However the dedication to the grandparents was a nice touch and their marriage. What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The detailed diary of the deceased mother (a little over the top). Least interesting was the big build up of Margot and her secret which was a big let down.Which scene was your favorite?
When Doug was divorcing Pauline! If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I did find the character that is getting married, Jenna, to be quite annoying. We were meant to find her adorable and with the dead mother angle supposed to just feel hartbroken for her. But I didn't because she's just SO incredibly irritiating. I mean the only setback this girl has EVER had is a dead mom. Other than that it is sunshine and rainbows. Elin tried to give her some subtance, but she's just a caricature of a person. When she finally stands up for herself to literally only ONE person in the book I thought that was her most likeable moment. Most of the time she just comes off as spoiled and sheltered to be honest. For instance there are bits about how incredible she is because she chastized her future MIL for not recycling her coffee cup or how she only wants a conflict free diamond engagement ring, but she's having a $100,000 wedding??? Make it make sense. Hypocritical prissy pampered princess. And the reason she has for (not going to spoil it) doing something towards the end of the book just makes one go really? This is like an 8 year old throwing a temper tantrum. But that's kind of who she is. Jenna is mentally and emotionally a child.
The older sister, Margot, now that was a character that was worth the time and effort. She was flawed, but in a way that has you rooting for her. She was so human. The future MIL, Anne, was also incredibly captivating. So visceral. In fact, I wanted to hear more about her than anyone else. I truly wish we had more chapters on Anne.
Overall, it's a good read if you have time and you just want something fun and light.
Fun beach read, pretty much what you would expect
