Publisher's summary

Waiting is difficult, but in this game of murder, waiting is the name of the game. The cat and mouse game begins...

Susie has a humdrum life working in an airport coffee shop, but it doesn’t stop her from having big dreams. When the planes are grounded, life changes for her after she accepts a new job and a deal that puts her face to face with a serial killer.

Who killed Shawn Davis? That’s the question Susie has to answer if she wants a better paycheck.

The jury has convicted Ian Little, although there are better-looking suspects. Now, she has to gather courage to get Ian Little, a convicted murderer, to tell her the truth about Shawn Davis, the one victim he refuses to take credit for killing.

From the desk of Susie, barista extraordinaire

Dreams never come true. When I was a little girl, my dream was to become a news anchor. Everyone would tune in to the six o'clock news report just to listen to what I had to say. I would wear smart-looking clothes and have my hair done up by a stylist, and flawless makeup applied by the hands of a makeup artist.

Now, as I stand behind the counter dressed in my toffee-colored tee shirt with a name tag alerting every customer that I am Susan, barista extraordinaire, I hear the words again: Dreams never come true.

Not you usual new kid on the block

So we have this young girl who after a chance meeting with a TV 'weather' girl decides she has had enough of her dead end job of working behind the counter and selling coffee, tea but not me. She tells her co-worker and friend she is going to college, bang. Fast forward a few years later she is a new graduate and she shows up at the TV studio to see the weather girl but she doesn't work there any more. Well tears are spilled, some one decides to interview her and she get a job. Not the kind of job she wanted she will write a sort of advice column once a week. Than she receives a letter offering an large undisclosed amount of money and all she has to do is write a book. "Book? I don't know how to write a book." She took the bait, do you want to know what the book was about???? I'm not a spoiler you have to read this book to find out what happens.

Working at airport to author

In an unlikely transition from working a cafe at an airport, to “Ask Sue” newspaper colonist, to author, Susan is handed some amazing opportunities and takes them. She is definitely not one to let an opportunity pass her by. The beginning of the story, where Susan goes from working at the airport to writing for the “Ask Sue” column is well paced and well plotted, but the later half of the story, where Susan receives an offer in a letter to write a book about a murdered daughter, was a little rushed. However, this was a short story and all short stories must end. The character of Susan and her friend were well rounded and the conclusion wasn’t what I expected. The narrator sounds a bit like she was in pain while speaking male voices. While I have not read the rest of the series, I am sure my feeling that the ending was rushed would dissipate in a full-length novel.

The beginning of a great series.

A casual conversation with a customer and Suzie instantly sets a plan to become a news reporter! I like how the protagonist's best friend pushes Suzie to take the risk. The risk pays off. A new beginning in a new city, a new job (not the one in the plan), and then a new challenge.

An entertaining and well written book. The narrator Nyamukandawiri did a fantastic job with the characters! I am looking forward to reading / listening to the next novella, The Killer Inside Me.

I received an advance copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Captivating Introduction

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is a captivating introduction to a new series. In this book the characters are introduced, and the premise of the following books are explored. I enjoyed reading about a young barista turned gossip columnist, that is drawn into a murder mystery through her followers. While I agree with some of the other reviews that the narration isn't perfect, and sounds a little odd when performing the male voices, it is easily overlooked. This book definitely spurred my curiosity, and I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens next!
