Publisher's summary

In Book 2 of the "Golden Queen" trilogy, Maggie Flynn has become, by test of combat, the new Golden Queen. Maggie and her companions, the bounty hunter Gallen O'Day and the sentient bear Orick, face an attack by Dronons on a planet where humans have achieved the pinnacle of genetic engineering. The trio must stop the invaders while guarding the secret of Maggie's whereabouts, for she is only the Golden Queen until her champion, Gallen, is defeated by a Dronon challenger.

Unfinished audiobook

So first of all, I want to say that I have loved this series since I first discovered it over 25 years ago... I had forgotten the story enough that listening to it was thoroughly enjoyable, as I had forgotten enough of the plot to feel like I was listening fir the first time again ... almost
There were still memories that awakened as I listened on...
So imagine my surprise when the book ended abruptly, without the conclusion that I remembered it to have.... I thought “it has been a long time... maybe it continues in the next installment... so when I started listening to lords of the 7th swarm, the events that I remembered at the end of beyond the gate, had already come to pass. I pulled out my hard copy of the book, and lo and behold an entire chapter is missing at the end of the book. So if you are listening to this, and you don’t know the story, you will be really confused at the beginning of the next one

Great series but the Audible is missing chapter 32

This is one of my favorite series and I saw it was on sale and jumped on the deal, I finished Beyond the Gate then started book 3 only to find something missing. Chapter 32 (which I recommend stopping by a library and reading) closes out book 2 and is the opening into book 3. By the audible book alone, you'll spend days wondering when are they going to explain about so and so. So just a warning that the chapter is missing, Peter Ganin does an excellent job bringing the story across and with the discounted price, I highly recommend it.

If you want a book read by a half literate robot..

What would have made Beyond the Gate better?

The author has no idea how to communicate the atmosphere, he sounds jilted, as though Captain Kirk were narrating the solemn history of a star, really horrid reading. I love the book, but not the audio version, very very disappointed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Beyond the Gate?

NA

What didn’t you like about Peter Ganim’s performance?

Nothing, he did horribly.

What character would you cut from Beyond the Gate?

none

Poor Effort Stretched Out Over Sixteen Hours

The first book in this series was quite enjoyable for a young adult audience. This book had six hours of good material in it, and it was stretched out over sixteen hours. The characters ceased to be interesting and when one main character dies, it is a relief. I only completed listening to this book because I have already purchased the third book and I wanted to listen to the transition work.
