These days it's increasingly rare to have a stable career in any field. More and more of us are blending big company jobs, startup gigs, freelance work, and volunteer side projects. We take chances to expand our knowledge, capabilities, and experience. But how do we make sense of that kind of career-and explain it? Pamela Slim, the acclaimed author of Escape from Cubicle Nation, gives us the tools to have meaningful careers in this new world of work. She shows how to find the connections among diverse accomplishments, sell your story, and continually reinvent and relaunch your brand.

Serendipitous

A stroke of luck hit me when I was trying to download a book for physician assistant school with a similar title and got this one instead. I laughed to myself about it and decided to give it a go anyway. I am very thankful that I did, as it was far more applicable to what I’m going through in school, while I’m building my body of work. Very well written and has a great message.

Vision with a just do it attitude

Great story of how some people have the natural gift of seeing things and situations from a different perspective and doing something positive about it. While some people have it naturally it can be learned by developing an awareness to look beyond the surface and follow your gut instincts. Nice book.

Body of Work is a recipe for flourishing

Body of Work has had a profound (positive) impact on the way that I operate my life. I've been working hard to build a community around myself full of people who share these ideas since my 2011 transition from the Marine Corps to a career in the arts. I want to recommend Body of Work to as many of my fellow veterans and artists as I possibly can now, because it's the most effective delivery of these concepts I've ever seen gathered in one place. I feel a deep sense of peace knowing that others can learn from this book and use it as a recipe to flourish.

Motivational and Immediately Actionable

This is my second time reading/listening to this book. I have picked up even more the second time around. It could be called a workbook, because you don't passively read. Instead you are encouraged to examine yourself by answering questions and completing exercises that make all the information immediately relative.

Great Career Book

I read this book as part of a required reading for a certification and I am so glad I picked this book over other business books. The author does an amazing job reading through her book and it really can be applied in so many different settings! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are "stuck" in a career or life or job or anything!

Examples are good

I give this book 3.5 stars. The stories are good as examples of how other people found meaningful work and built their body of work through different means, such as employment, side gig, volunteerism, and personal relationships. However, the guidance wasn't inspiring. The author used the analog of ingredients and recipes. Skills, strengths, experience, and jobs are the ingredients. The recipes are how you produce your body of work, such results at work, planning an event, organizing your family activities, helping a charity, and writing a book. The analog just didn't work.
