Publisher's summary

A missing giant. A sinister conspiracy. A decision that will change the fate of a jarldom.

The bone trade is big business. Black market buyers will offer many silvers for fresh giant bone to carve into charms or use in dark enchantments.

When cloaked men kidnap the giant Njal Frostborn, everyone knows why. He's destined to be murdered and sold in that terrible trade.

His best friend, apprentice wizard Idun Wintermoon, is determined to save him from that terrible fate. But to do so, she must defy the head of her order and face powers far beyond her ability. To survive, she's going to need an ally. Luckily for her, Lissette Forlatt - a down-on-her-luck sellsword - is on the case. Together, they'll brave worse than the elements and rogue mages in their quest to save Njal. What they discover might shake the jarldom to its core.

If they live long enough to tell the story.

Rachel is first-rate!

Okay, so here's the thing...
I love Rachel's writing. She has a knack for storytelling, and I've never been disappointed in any of her books.
That said - the narrator was not quite up to the high standards Rachel sets.
Yes, the voices were good - distinct and recognizable. Unfortunately, there were too many pauses after sentences and paragraphs which interrupted the flow of the story.
I still recommend this audiobook, because Rachel!

A Giant's Bones

I was entertained by this book which was the first experience I have had with this author. I admired the worldbuilding. I felt that the use of magic was like icing on a cake and that it made the story better. I liked the characters especially the apprentice wizard, Idun Wintermoon, as she put loyalty to her friend above every consideration. I enjoyed all the twists and turns that moved the story forward. I thought Em Barger's narration was fun, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook through StoryOrigin. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this story.

Bone Traders (Sellswords & Spellweavers Book 1), my sixtieth read from author Rachel Ford. Another new series, imagine that. This book is so well-written & enjoyable, no matter the genre a Rachel Ford book can be counted on to be entertaining & enjoyable. "I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The goal in mind.

Interesting story, the idea of the value of bones. I liked the concept of insisting on doing the right thing, but I found some parts a little creepy.
The narrator was a little choppy, not as fluid as I would have expected. It was a little impersonal

Interesting story

Sometimes I struggle keeping my attention with audiobooks, because my mind goes off the deep end trying to figure everything out way before the narration even gets there. However, this one got me.

I loved Idun, she is loyal and everything a friend should be. Magic wasn't the main focus of the story, but really enhanced it. The storyline was interesting, and I enjoyed the different aspects.

This is the first I've heard from this author, and will check more of her work.

A fantasy mystery adventure romance all in one!

I really enjoyed this book. The two main characters switched narrating the story (same narrator using different types of voices.) There was a lot of action, adventure, danger, fantasy, and a romance all wrapped up in this book.
There's magic, fighting, kidnapping and so much more. This book has something for everyone. I can't wait to read more by this author.

It was fun and didn't over escalate the story.

There is plenty ty of room for growth with well, but not overly, fleshed out characters.
