About this listen

Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle. Placed on sabbatical from her dead-end bar job, she is offered an exhibition at a fashionable London gallery, promising to revive her career in the art world and offering an escape from her rut of drugs, alcohol and extreme cinema.

The news triggers a self-destructive tailspin, centred around Irina's relationship with her obsessive best friend and a shy young man from her local supermarket who has attracted her attention....

Boy Parts is the incendiary debut novel from Eliza Clark, a pitch-black comedy both shocking and hilarious, fearlessly exploring the taboo regions of sexuality and gender roles in the 21st century.

Fun- weird

Fun listen but I was hoping for a bigger ending. Not a waste of a credit but I guess I feel a little bit like I just want to know what happens… the ending isn’t really that…

Hauntingly Visceral

I didn’t know what to expect from Boy Parts. It was beautifully dark and twisted to the point beyond reality. Like Christian Bates, you’re left wondering if she ever did the terrible thing that follows her. Impeccably voiced and performed by the author.

It feels like a feminist take on American Psycho

Vocal performance is excellent, and the book is well written. It takes from American Psycho, but I enjoy the feminist outlook and graphic scenes. You will hate the character, but you will also be mesmerized by her anger and callousness. The descent into madness with no consequences is entertaining. It's worth the listen.

spiraling character, manipulator, self destructive

The main character is unlikable, unreliable, and spiraling. She manipulates and abuses everyone around her, yet she captivates / traps people in her web, just like you'll be captivated when listening to this story. At times the narrator annoyed me with the high pitched voices but overall it was an entertaining listen. At times it felt repetative with the whole drug/alcohol binges and what not. At the end, I felt that we really don't know what's true in the entire narrative, because it seems like she fell off the deep end before the story even starts. I don't know if that makes sense, but overall I liked it!

Good not great, felt Irina’s character escalated so quickly

I liked this a lot, amazing reader but felt like the story was gonna focus on several longstanding relationships and that she wasn’t gonna sleep with them. Her relationship with Eddie from Tesco seemed nonsensical to me

Eliza Clark is a Major Talent

This is the first time I've listened to a book read by the author that I wasn't wondering why they didn't pay a professional. If Eliza Clark wasn't already slated to be a major author she could have a great career as a reader. Boy Parts far exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be a fun, throw away book but was amazed at what turned out to be a well written character study. I don't want to give any spoilers but there comes a point one wonders what is real in the book and what is going on the the main character's mind. Intelligent writing assures this doesn't come across like a hoaky dream sequence. It really works to make for a compelling read. Looking forward to Ms Clark's next book. Sure hope she reads it for Audible.

trigger warning: v!olence and ab*se

I couldn't stop listening! Fascinating and intoxicating. But not for everyone. I haven't seen any reviews mentioning the horrible ab*se these men are experiencing from our narcissistic main character. Be warned! There's no pleasantries here. Overall, very good writing and capturing listen. Poor Eddie. The ending was abrupt and I'm bummed to not know what happens.

Disturbing

I don't know how this is considered a dark comedy, I didn't laugh one time was genuinely disturbed. Great read

American Psycho but British

American Psycho but British and with more photography, noncon kink, dysfunctional family and friend dynamics, and exploration of classism. I enjoyed it. Just about nobody is a good person in this book, especially the main character. I especially liked the subtle exploration of classism and “making it” that is tied into this psychological horror. The performance was good except for the voice given to the Eddie character, which was supposed to make him sound gentle and naive but really just sounded like an adult trying to sound like a small child. It was more queer than I expected but could have been gayer (but then again, I always wish that lol).
