The Gut--Your Second Brain--Who Knew!
Terrific book about brain health and its relationship to the health and integrity of your gastrointestinal tract. Dr Perlmutter is a practicing MD, neurologist and nutritionist. The information presented is grounded in scientific research and peer reviewed literature. Much of Dr Perlmutter's approach is cutting edge and offers a new way to view how the brain is affected by the diet you eat. Practical and easily applicable advise on how to improve your health and make a real change in the way you feel each day.
Be aware that the book is complicated with numerous scientific references cited. It can be slow going and I occasionally needed to listen to several sections more than once. That said, the book is excellent and filled with life changing information. Worth the effort and highly recommended listening.

Dr. Perlmutter does it again!
What did you love best about Brain Maker?
Brain Maker is on the cutting edge of research. As with Grain Brain, Dr. Perlmutter is way ahead of his medical colleagues once again in his approach to seeking answers about what causes chronic disease. Instead of relying on the standard Western medical approach of treating symptoms with pharmaceutical drugs, Dr. Perlmutter looks at underlying mechanisms in the body - specifically our gut microbiota to determine why we are sick in the first place and what to do to nourish our bodies back to health - naturally. This enlightened approach would change the course of our sick and diseased society that blindly relies on Western medicine, drugs and food companies to guide it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Brain Maker?
Brain Maker makes me now understand the absolute importance of our gut microbiome in achieving health and happiness. It is so unfortunate so many people are suffering such debilitating illness because they (and their doctor) do not have the knowledge of how healthy gut bacteria can change their lives. They think taking a pharmaceutical drug that only takes a sledge hammer to a symptom will somehow make them healthy. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Extremely informative in a conversational way. The explanation of the science is complete yet easy to understand. The personal stories bring home the reality of how critical our gut health is to almost every aspect of our lives - the brain, immune system, emotions and so much more.

Everyone should read it nowadays
Specially as we are post COVID now, we all need to read this book as we are entering a new era with new studies on antibiotics and it’s consequences. Why not look for more answers to all our health problems. We go to the dicots and they barely hear us but prescribe prescribe and represcribe so we leave their clinics as soon as possible to move on to the next patient. The more patients they are in an hour, the more $ they make. Doctors that give you the time of the day are seldom nowadays and after COVID times. We have exhausted them.

Probiotics are the future of health
I absolutely loved Grain Brain so no surprise that I loved Dr. Perlmutter's second book as well.
As someone who follows a Paleo diet I highly believe in the connection between physical and mental health.
I work in the healthcare industry and believe probiotics are the wave of the future. So much information in this book just makes sense. Plain and simple. It's easy to understand and there are so many takeaways.
If you're looking to improve your health and don't believe in a "pill for every ill" mentality than this book is for you.
