Publisher's summary

A red tide is rising.

Seventeen-year-old Jade is recently engaged to a handsome soldier and about to choose her own career. But she didn't expect to witness a murder.

When her fiance kills a naiad, plunging the underwater city of Thessalonike into uproar, tensions surge between the mer and the naiads. Jade learns too late that the choices she makes ripple further than she'd ever imagined. And as she fights against the tide of anger in a city that lives for scandal, she discovers danger lurking in every canal, imperiling her family and shattering the ocean's fragile peace.

Can the city's divisions be mended before the upwelling of hate rips apart everything Jade loves?

Enjoyed immensely

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is a more creative way to address social injustice and portrays the love and sacrifice others are willing to endure to effect change.

Good YA fiction, great narration.

The story itself was solid YA fiction. I would have liked more intricacies and history of the mer world.

The narration was excellent, however. I enjoyed her range, and her male voices were excellent.

Amazing

This books is really a great book. The story flows well and the plot is great. The narrator does an amazing job with it. I really hope the narrator continues to narrate the rest of the series. Would highly recommend.

good story idea

I mostly enjoyed the idea behind the story but the reader was super hard to listen to. I think this story would have more potential if they had chosen a better reader. this was not one of those books that i just couldn't put down, sometimes i was all to happy to put it down because the readers voice was so annoying.
