Publisher's summary

A journey of a thousand lifetimes begins...

In the now lost Kingdom of Rah’a, Sherin, the lone survivor in a region devoured by plague, embarks on a desperate quest.
Amidst the chaos of the ever-expanding epidemic, she encounters Nif, a fierce rebel leading a nomadic tribe, and Roon, a stalwart soldier of the crumbling kingdom. She finds herself torn between two men, two worlds, and ensnared by a prophecy that promises eternal love to her and her chosen mate...at a price.
In a saga spanning epochs, an extraordinary destiny begins to unfold. A passage through the annals of time that will define three souls: one seeking love, the other seeking redemption, and the last seeking a fate that may be the last hope for humanity.
Romantasy fans will be enchanted by this epic story! If you loved The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Life After Life, and The Time Traveler's Wife, the Breath series will be your next obsession!

I was hooked from the start

Romance, mystery, intrigue, violence and death all while learning more about history, this story has it all. You are kept guessing which of the men will be her Nif, her eternal love. The narrator does a wonderful job and the voice of Sherin has such a dreamy accent. You follow Sherin through all the ups and downs, the happiest and saddest of times, grief and family losses and meeting new friends during the three years of the story.

This is a mystical story that grabs you from the beginning and keeps you listening.

Wow

A very different kind of romance book. I LOVED it, it was one of those where the characters stayed with you for days and days after you finished it and have a NEED to hear how their lives go on and how they find each other again!! Jest WOW.

A Unique "Immortality" Tale

This first book is 90% comprised of the story of Sherin's first life, set in North African Desert many centuries ago. She is destined to live many lifetimes of 17 years each, reincarnating again, and again, However, between reincarnations, she is a conscious spirit who remembers all her past as she watches the present. Her current spirit is in modern times, and as she watches her most recent daughter (and husband) in an archeological dig of her old home, she also tells the story of her first life, love, and loss. Complete with an ancient plague, a love triangle, and horrendous events and tragedies, it is well-written and compelling. The book seems a bit long but with patience, the reader is rewarded. The ending has an exciting lead-in for book 2.

Great Escape!

Loved escaping to the dessert and living the life there, particularly with the great characters Dougherty has created. Lawrence is also the perfect voice to bring this world and its people alive. Can't wait to start the sequel.
