Publisher's summary

Bretdon hasn’t considered escaping. Of course, that idea has always been in his mind, especially ever since he heard about Jarcor and all of the other cyborgs that had managed to escape. But, when he finds himself alone, in the middle of the woods, his desire to escape becomes the only thing he can think of. All he needs is to find someone he can persuade into helping him to free himself from the humans’ enslavement. Ophelia is crossing the country to go visit her mother. With the world at war, it’s not the most sensible idea she has ever had, but she hadn't been able to continue saying no to her mother. On a minute of distraction, she runs over a man on the road. Startled, she steers the wheel and jumps out of the car sure she has killed the stranger. But he isn’t dead. He’s very much alive and he’s a cyborg. From that moment on, their lives intertwine in ways they never thought possible. Contains extended preview of Farseek - Lieutenant's Mate

Good premise and lots of action!

The heroine: Bretdon - the world is at war with aliens called the Taucet, so humans created cyborgs to fight the war for them. The government doesn’t want any civilians to know that cyborgs are in fact human, they can get hurt, feel pain, they have feelings and a soul, they just have some enhancements that make them superior in battle. Though they have some code that keeps them on a tight leash. They are basically slaves to the humans.

The Hero: Ophelia - she lives in the city and is on her way across the country to the mountains where her mother lives. Her mother has been getting on her for not visiting since the war began, but really it can be dangerous out there. Roads have fallen into neglect, and it is the height of the winter, so mountain driving isn’t exactly safe, not to mention the fact that the Taucet have taken thousands of human females as slaves.

The Story: Bretdon and the rest of his cyborg army unit are clearing out a town that was taken by the Taucet when he sees two of the aliens running away from the town. He gives chase and doesn’t capture them till they are far away from the town. He can’t just run away, like he wants and live free because he has coding that will cause him pain if he tries to desert the military.

Bretdon comes across Ophelia while she is driving and talks her into opening his computer panel and entering the codes that will disable his virtual chains and free him. After that they have to stay together to get away from the government. He, because he is running and her because she now knows too much about cyborgs.

The story has a good premise and a lot of action. Though the writing was a bit simplistic. I was actually surprised to find out how many books this author had written. I did like the characters, and I am very fond of cyborg romance stories, so this wasn’t too bad, and I gave it a 3.2 overall.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by virtual voice, computer-generated narration. Now there are quite a few books on audible plus with virtual voice, none are done in dual narration, so I tend to only pick the ones done by a male voice that I like. For some reason I like male narrators much better than female narrators so if I get any books with solo narration, I tend to only go for the males. This one has a good voice and you can barely tell that it is computer generated.
