About this listen

Captain William Brewer has returned from the South Atlantic with hopes of spending some time with his wife, Elizabeth, and their new daughter, Anne. There is a new threat in the Caribbean–a pirate named Black Rose has created a panic among merchant sailors. The attacks are becoming increasingly violent and deadly, and the pirate always leaves a calling card to claim responsibility: a single black rose on a victim’s body.

Brewer is drawn in to the chase when a ship drifts into the harbor at St. Kitts full of dead and wounded, along with a single black rose. Brewer is sent out to find Black Rose, but he is soon recalled when news arrives that his old ship, HMS Revenge, has been taken over by mutineers! Brewer must find and deal with the traitors before turning his attention back to Black Rose, whose plan for revenge on Brewer and a member of his crew threatens to destroy them all!

Slightly predictable but completely fun!

James Keffer delivers yet another immersive and engaging book in this fifth novel. This edition is a little on the predictable side in places, but it still manages to suck you into the story. When reading these Brewer novels, I feel the urge to take to the sea for high adventures and tropical weather - especially when it's winter in the Northern climates.

With many well-written novels, a substandard voice actor can take a good book and make it unbearable, but when Nigel Peever is on the job, you are always in for a treat. Peever continues to set new standards with masterful acting and fantastic production, foley work, music, and more.

I look forward to the next installment of Brewer's Adventures. I will grab a hot cup of tea and my cutlass and prepare to board!

High quality production.

Terrific narration and the added sound effects and music add real depth to the performance.

Anchors away!

Once again, James Keefer delivers another great swashbuckling story on the high seas. Can’t wait for the next one, and hope we get to see the events in Portuguese Gold get picked up once again.

WTH?

Ive listened to the entire series now and really liked the story and the characters. BUT, the sound effects are a sad distraction. Its like bad 1930s radio dramas. Combined with discount Patrick Stewart doing women and childrens' voice roles, it was nearly enough to put me off the series. Stil the story here was solid and remained engaging. Its worth your time if youre a fan of sea tales.
