Publisher's summary

Bright Angel is the story of a lost child, his A.I. sister, an ex-Navy SEAL and a disgraced climate scientist. Together, they may just form humanity’s best hope for a future on Earth.

After a prolonged cycle of flood and drought, the United States is on the verge of civil war over dwindling resources. Tammy Cohen is compelled to set out on a journey across a war and climate-ravaged America, setting sail to the far north of the world in order to try and procure ancient drought-resistant seeds. What is waiting for her there is beyond her wildest imaginings.

I cannot stop dreaming about this book

I read The Every by Dave Eggers earlier this year and enjoyed it. It is a dystopian tale of the near and easily plausible future in Eggers' clever voice. I saw Eliam Kraiem's Bright Angel mentioned on social media, and I purchased it on Audible because I was familiar with the author's work but didn't know what it was about. If you liked Eggers' The Every, you will LOVE Bright Angel. It is also a post-apocalyptic tale of the very near and easily plausible future but brilliantly written with beautiful characters and vivid tactile imagery. I purchased it on Audible to listen to the actress Sarah-Jane Drummey perform it. It exceeded my expectations, as her voice is a perfect vehicle to deliver this fantastic story. I had a hard time getting out of my car long after I was parked because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I looked forward to my morning commute because of this incredible book (who has ever said that?!!) I dreamt about the characters several times and wondered if I would ever stop thinking about this story. Eliam Kraiem is a genius, and Sarah Jane Drummey was born to perform this book, a perfect pairing indeed. I cannot wait to see what they create next!

ANOTHER BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN NOVEL BY ELIAM KRAIEM.

As with Eliam's first novel, Desert Trilogy, Bright Angel is masterfully written, profoundly imaginative, and wonderfully performed by the amazing Sara-Jane Drummey. Elaim's stunningly beautiful descriptive writing style, combined with Sara-Jane's brilliant narration, makes listening to this book a pure joy. Thank you both for this creation.

A masterpiece

I was completely transported as a listener engaging with this audiobook - its easily my favourite book this year. You are in the hands of not one but two master storytellers here as a listener.

Eliam Kraiem's lyrical writing skillfully crafts a gigantic, dystopian vision of epic scope that might crumble in the hands of a less talented writer. The execution here is faultless, the characters deeply endear, and the story never ceased to compel me - allowing moments of such distilled clarity, detail and wit to really pop and at times make me both guffaw and cry. I listened twice to some chapters to get every nugget from it. Also, Sarah Jane Drummey's performance as narrator is superlative. This is simply an astonishing piece of work that reaches for post pandemic fear, geopolitic tension, climate change and disaporic resilience and masterfully weaves these elements into a profound and beautiful amalgam that somehow, on the shoulders of main characters Adam, Tammy and Leonard, manages to transcend the anxieties of our time.
I cannot recommend this audiobook more highly.
