Publisher's summary

A “riveting and powerful” (Gretchen Carlson, cofounder of Lift Our Voices) insider’s account on Wall Street where greed coupled with misogyny and discrimination enforces a culture of exclusion in the upper echelons of Goldman Sachs.

Jamie Fiore Higgins became one of the few women at the highest ranks of Goldman Sachs. Spurred on by the obligation she felt to her working-class immigrant family, she rose through the ranks and saw it all: out-of-control, lavish parties flowing with never-ending drinks; affairs flouted in the office; rampant drug use; and most pervasively, a discriminatory culture that seemed designed to hold back the few women and people of color employed at the company.

Despite Goldman Sachs having the right talking points and statistics, Fiore Higgins soon realized that these provided a veneer to cover up what she found to be an abusive culture. Her “engrossing” (Julie Battilana and Tiziana Casciaro, authors of Power, for All) account is one filled with shocking stories of harassment and jaw-dropping tales of exclusionary behavior: when she was told she only got promoted because she is a woman; when her coworkers mooed at her after she pumped for her fourth child, defying the superior who had advised her not to breastfeed; or when a male boss used a racial epithet in front of her, other colleagues, and clients without any repercussions.

Bully Market “exposes the #MeToo movement’s unfinished work on Wall Street” (Meighan Stone, author of Awakening: #MeToo and the Global Fight for Women’s Rights) sounds the alarm on the culture of finance and corporate America, while offering clear, actionable ideas for creating a fairer workplace. Both a revealing, extraordinary look at the industry and a top Wall Streeter’s explosive personal story, Bully Market is an essential account of one woman’s experience in a flawed system that speaks to the challenge and urgency for change.

So relatable as a woman in tech

Jamie’s brave retelling of what it takes to survive a toxic work environment was eye opening and honest in its telling. It opened my eyes that I was not the only one being marginalized in the workplace, and how that affects you overtime. Well written and a quick read!

A Must Read for Every Woman

I gave it 5 stars and really enjoyed this book. It is an honest and courageous tale of how the author made it to the top ranks of one of the most prestigious financial consulting firms in the world. She takes you through the highs and lows of her career and how she coped with the good ole boys network at the top.

Very Brave Book

It was a fantastic life story! Jamie peeled back the onion of her life and experiences for us! Speaking up against Goldman and their culture is unheard of! She does it! It honest and raw and I am so glad she shared her story with the world!

Informative and Entertaining

The world inside Goldman Sachs is like no other with many stories emerging that have become folklore in the investment community. This is a unique perspective unlike any I have read before. It is sad that practices like these are not only accepted but are rewarded inside many of the large financial institutions today. This is an interesting look at the behavior witnessed and lessons learned.

Outstanding!

What a moving and revealing story! Shocking! Eloquent! Intimate! The salt of the earth storytelling makes this a inspiring and engrossing read. A must for would be investment bankers.

NO BULL! This Was a 5-Star Audiobook!

The book read like a truth-is-stranger-than-fiction novel and it was unputdownable.

The author held nothing back: professionally and personally.

Apparently, some names were changed to protect the privacy of Goldman Sachs employees.

I always love it when authors read their own memoirs and Jamie Fiore Higgins did an outstanding job with the narration.

5 enthusiastic stars!

Incredible story.

Wow. I can’t believe the torture she experienced. I hope all those pigs and everyone they work for now know how disgusting they are. Great story. I couldn’t stop listening.

Wonderful story, that no doubt is a true account

Very well written story that pulls at your heart and mind. These situations need to be brought to light so change can be enforced. Proud of the author for standing up to the bullies in corporate America.
