His pals, squabbling law partners Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord, fear that all those concussions playing football caused the brain damage known as CTE. Can they stop Lassiter from becoming a murderer?

Will Dr. Melissa Gold, a neuropathologist, be able to halt his decline?

Or...is it game over for Lassiter's career and life?

Critic reviews

"A one-sit, must-read novel full of memorable characters and unforgettable vignettes. Levine's pacing is perfect as always, and the pages just fly by, even as he juggles multiple plots with his own unique aplomb." (Bookreporter.com)

"Another winner. A taut and dazzling legal thriller and a sly and witty rumination on the meaning of justice." (Robert Dugoni, number one Wall Street Journal and number one Amazon best-selling author)

"Immensely entertaining. Paul Levine is among the best authors of legal thrillers, right up there with Grisham and Turow." (Lee Goldberg, number one New York Times best-selling author)

Nice read

Realistic legal concepts and law enforcement approach to investigating crimes. Lassiter’s description of Miami brings back great memories. We’ll done and thank you.

Can't Wait for the Next Jake Lassiter Book!

I love Paul Levine's fluid, easy writing style, and I can't wait to see what happens to Jake in the book that will follow Cheater's Game. I actually listened to Cheater's Game before Bum Luck, so I had to listen to Bum Luck right away to find out how Jake's love life had so significantly changed. Paul Levine got me invested in Jake's personal life while creating passionate, but subtle intimate scenes, a refreshing change from some of the explicit sex you find in so much literature now. This book will leave you worrying about Jake's health though. I haven't started the Solomon and Lord series yet, but Bum Luck certainly put it on my list.

I think Netflix needs to do a season for each book in the Jake Lassiter series! I'd really love to see the action, adventure, romance, beautiful Florida scenery, and such well developed characters come to my TV!

I was happy to hear Luke Daniels' voice again in this Audible book. He has such a sexy, masculine voice for Jake, but his voices for Charlie Riggs, Granny, Kip, and others are so unique that it's easy to visualize each of them.

Bum Luck

Great storyline, this book should be read before the eleventh book of the Jake Lassiter series. I would recommend this book.
Excellent narration.

More woke with each installment

I really enjoy Jake as a character but with each installment, there’s just too many additions to the woke religion so I’m done. At first, the instances were humorous to see how Jake would stumble under today’s “progressive” ideas. But unnecessary, purposeful inclusions have become predictably preachy and tiresome. It’s as if the author wants us to see Jake as a symbol of what needs to change in men and so we get to witness the “progress” in Jake that all men should be embracing. Well, if I wanted a self-help lecture about how men should be feminized, I wouldn’t be reading a fiction novel about a 240lb former pro football player who is now a reckless gunslinger attorney.
Also, what was with the narrator’s pronunciation of NFL legend Junior Seau? He’s the most famous case example of the underlying theme of the series and his name’s mispronunciation is way more disrespectful than any of Kip’s colorful phrases that Jake admonishes.
