Publisher's summary

What your CFO absolutely needs you to know.

This clear and concise book will help you better understand the universal language of business, and will demystify the financial terminology and concepts that are used to measure an organization’s performance.

Do you want to go to the highest high of your organization? Would you like to enhance your business acumen, so any employer in any industry in any part of the world can see your value? If so, this book is a must-listen and, more importantly, a must-do.

A recovering accountant, Paul serves as your guide - breaking the complexity of business down into simple, memorable, and often humorous steps.

Can you imagine an organization where everyone working in the business is working as if they owned the business? Imagine what that would do to that company’s income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.

That’s called having an intrapreneurial spirit. That’s called business financial intelligence - a mindset and skillset few people have and all organizations need.

This should be a must-read for every employee

I purchased the audio book this evening and listened to it straight away. At 2 hours, I was able to listen in one sitting, though I am sure I will listen many times over to let the concepts and anecdotes that Paul shares sink in.

Paul takes us through the principles of accounting concepts and terms and explains them in a way that is easy to understand. As a result, it's much easier for me to connect the dots between principle and practice - something I struggled with in college accounting 101 so many years ago. For example, I've seen and heard the term "velocity" in financial circles yet found it difficult to gain a clear understanding of what it means and how it is applied. Now, I understand it and can share it, thanks to Paul's memorable explanation and examples. This is a book I will return to many times.

A comment on narration: Paul narrated the book himself, which makes it even more enjoyable. His diction, tempo and clarity, not to mention the use of the informal British expression, "easy peasy", all lend to a pleasant listening experience. It comes across as a friend sharing information to help you learn something - and I did.

All in all, I found this to be a helpful book and one I will keep close at hand. I will also encourage my team to read it as well. This quick read should be required reading for every employee that wants to increase their value to the organization, and for every employer that wants to transform their organization increasing financial intelligence.

Eric Mack

P.S. In the interest of transparency, I've known Paul casually for several years; however, I purchased this audio book as well as the hard cover book with my own funds, because of my own interest and desire to better understand the terms and concepts explained within. It was money and time well spent.

Great Book!

I really enjoyed listening. Sometimes the terms are technical, but I have come away with a new appreciation on how businesses are run. It has made me a better employee as I can see what matters to my boss and the company. I would recommend to learn on how a business is run financially. Also great funny moments that helps to ease the financial terms being explained.
